it's hard to say how good we are given the schedule we played. Perfectly possible we will win this. Take the points Perfectly possible is pretty much exactly how I’d describe it. I’m not convinced we are ready for this game, but I don’t think Syracuse is all that good either. Hoyas will win!

I am not sure why but I am optimistic. I am fully aware of our shortcomings but this seems like a together group that will not gag. I think we are- at this point a- a top 50 team, but with an upside. Playing a very similar level team at home. We win. I want to see Jesse prove himself e.g Otto in in 2013. I really think he may be the real deal, questions are: is Kalebs improvement real? Can Marcus throw his body around? Can Mosley play under control? Likewise Pickett. I cantt wait to see. Love this group

That's good..exorcise their team hotel the night before...they'll be spooked...won't be able to overcome the feeling that they've been overcome...

So enough about the schedule. We have a great game tomorrow. Some things to keep in mind:
Syracuse: Overall, Syracuse is a better defensive team than offensive team. Syracuse is the best team in the nation at blocks and 4th best in the nation at steals. They also rank pretty high (82nd) in forcing turnovers, and their 2 point defense is excellent (13th nationwide). They're also 44th nationwide in rebounding percentage.
Syracuse's biggest weakness - by far - is shooting. They are one of the worst three point shooting teams in the country (ranking 333rd of 351), shooting only 28.5%. They get to the line pretty often, but they are bad at shooting free throws - shooting only 66.5% (277th nationwide). They are better at two's, shooting 51.2%. Their big strength, which has been mentioned here before, is that they get a lot of their misses - they are 2nd best in the nation at offensive rebounds.
The biggest thing that worries me is that one of our biggest problems (turnovers) matches Syracuse's strengths on defense (steals, blocks, forcing turnovers). That could be a big problem for us.
Contrarily, I think the biggest thing in our favor is that Syracuse is not a good shooting team, whereas thus far we have been pretty good (though streaky). Currently, our guys are shooting 39.2% from three (50th ranked), 55.6% from two (ranked 44th), and we are excellent at free throws (76.3%, 32nd ranked). If the zone gives us good looks from three, we need to take them, and make them. If we do, it will be hard for Syracuse to overcome that.
Things I will be looking for:
- How are we rebounding? - Are we turning it over a lot? - Are we making threes? - How is Jesse Govan handling bigger, more athletic opponents?
We can win this game. Let's do it.

I expect Syracuse to pound it inside to their bigs immediately or to drive into the lane challenging Govan and MD to draw fouls. Tomorrow could be a a real test of Walker's development and even Sodom could have to play just to give a break to our interior players. Worst case scenario is that Govan picks up two quick fouls. On the other hand we should also be driving on their bigs and that will best be accomplished by not allowing Syracuse to slow the game down. Really interested in this one and hoping that the Ewing plan for developing this team bears fruit, but the realist (pessimist) in me says that it is too early for the type of growth needed to beat a decent team that has already been tested by three high majors.

Coach Ewing on Sports talk 980 in a few minutes Anyone have the cliff notes? Pat didn't really seem to say anything specific. Said Cuse was a good team and well coached. The players seem ready. He wants to reduce turnovers and hit shots from outside, and expects Cuse to limit Govan's touches. Also said Cuse's "1 and 2" were the keys to the team and the 3,4 and 5 guys are tall and offensive rebound well. Also wants to return the program to where it was when he was coach. Basically, an interview to remind the listeners the game is tomorrow in DC and they are welcome to attend!

If you take away 7-2 Pascal Chukuwu (Providence transfer), they really aren't that big. It's been a while since I saw him play at Providence but he was sort of a Chris Sodom type when he was there (but obviously was playing some minutes).

Zone 'em...keep Howard from penetrating to the hoop...make him and them beat you from the outside... stay on Battle...BOX OUT and control the defensive glass...hit the foul line jumper, make their zone collapse, then hit the wing threes...make sharp, decisive passes to create a good look with each possession...avoid lazy/telegraphed passes/turnovers...defend them mercilessly...kick their butts...GO HOYAS!

The most an individual Gtown player has hit in a game this season is 4.. Marcus made 4 against Jacksonville & Kaleb mad 4 against UMES.. Someone needs to be blazing hot from 3 tomorrow..

If we get, say, four guys to each hit 3 we accomplish the same result without any one player feeling pressured to make seven, and we have better balance...(or say, 3 guys hitting 3 and 3 others each hitting 1)...to win, we have to stay even on the boards and make more 3s and f/ts, and keep the turnovers to 12-13 or fewer...
