Whitney has seen schools start to recruit him more aggressively now that he is a junior.
“I can say attention has been the biggest difference this year,” said Whitney. “At the beginning they would send a couple texts out and now every other day coaches are calling, leaving voicemails and text messages and asking if I watched their game or not. I have enjoyed the process, sometimes it is overwhelming, but I have enjoyed it.”
Nine schools have separated themselves from the rest of the schools recruiting him.
“UConn, Georgetown, St. Johns, Oregon, Miami, Syracuse, Virginia Tech, Virginia and Illinois have recruited me the hardest,” he said...
Illinois is attempting to keep Whitney in his home state for his college career. This has turned into an intriguing option for the junior wing.
“This is Coach Underwood’s first year at Illinois,” Whitney said. “Illinois fans are crazy, they love me already. Everybody expects you to stay home since it’s the hometown school. I feel like the plus is that my family can come watch my games with it only being an hour away. I have a great relationship with the coaches. Assistant coach Ron Coleman coached with the Mac Irvin Fire a couple years back so we have a good relationship.”
Whitney went on an unofficial visit to Georgetown last month and received an offer from the Hoyas. This was a special experience for him.
“Georgetown was one the most exciting offers I received because I got to meet Patrick Ewing on a visit,” he said. “He told me how good of a player I am and what I need to work on. Coach Ewing said I could be special and he decided to extend an offer, which was great.”
Syracuse has expressed to Whitney how big of an impact he can make at their school.
“Coach Jim Boeheim and Coach Autry have been recruiting me,” Whitney said. “I’ve been talking to them every other day. They have told me that I can shoot the ball well, which is good because they specialize in guards that can run the floor and shoot. They think I can be a special player at their program.”
During the beginning parts of the high school season, he plans to visit three high major programs.
“I will be visiting Syracuse for sure in two or three weeks and UConn and St. John’s soon,” he told MADE Hoops.

Whitney seems to me like he should be at the very top of the 2019 Big Board. 247sports.com/Player/Kahlil-Whitney-45572914The coaching staff has seem him play a handful of times and he has visited. Whitney is a big time scoring wing who would step right in 2019. I hope Pat is able to sign Frink and these two can play together. Whitney is dynamic.

Would be a big-time get for Ewing, the connection is that Whitney's dad played for Orr at Seton Hall. Hunch is he ends up at Syracuse.

It was bad enough watching Michigan State completely self-destruct on Sunday. I don't need to read this now.

247sports.com/Article/Kahlil-Whitney-talks-his-new-offer-and-updates-his-recruiting-process-116936380Another school that has been extremely active with Whitney is Georgetown. Hoyas assistant coach Louis Orr coached Whitney's father, Kelly, at Seton Hall, and now he is recruiting Kahlil as hard as anybody.
"Coach Orr is a great guy," said Whitney of the Hoyas. "He showed up to a lot of my games. It is great to have him recruiting me, and he tells me what I have to do better and how I can improve. We just have a really good relationship."

Not sure why Louis Orr is on the staff...hopefully he's not making much coin.

One of Orr's supposed strengths was his relationships with Gaffney and Whitney. If he can't cash in on those, that strength is nullified. Another of Orr's supposed strengths was his in-game bench coaching given his D1 coaching experience. We saw how that turned out in Year 1 of the Ewing Era. What are Orr's other strengths?

I have no doubt that he is a close adviser to Patrick on many matters related to college hoops, including recruiting. I would prefer to wait and see how these recruits decide, and how some of these other issues develop, before I start dumping on an assistant who has been here for all of one year.

Top 3 Irrational Fanatic Post of the Day.... Still waiting for a strength of Orr’s. Hoyaboya these are in home visits not official visits. If he sets uo officials and we don't get one then you can question Orr but I think we get an official...

Being that I'm from the Tri-state area and know many of the local AAU/H.S coaches/former players , I will say Orr is very well respected and well known. He has Head coach experience on this level and knows the game well. Personally , I'm happy to have him on the staff. This was Coach Ewings 1st year on the Hilltop and I'm sure Coach Orr was a huge part of helping Pat adjust. I've said this before and I will say it again , the staff has been on their grind and things will turn around for the program soon. I trust the staff and take the same approach as Coach Ewing "PATIENCE" .. The main focus is WIN GAMES , the rest will fall in order.
