The BET should be crazy this year. Nova really misses Pascal and Booth. Oh well, I guess it just shows how bad a coach Jay Wright is. Losing to a team that was 0-10 in the BE and that lost to GU twice! This sounds really ridiculous. It was intended to.

As with Georgetown, I think that making conclusions on St. John’s or Mullin after two games (granted fantastic results) is a little silly. There’s almost certainly an element of luck there too - any team in the Big East winning at Villanova is going to be a big underdog. For example, Villanova took 33 three point shots and shot 24.2% compared to their normal average of 41% (11th highest). So I applaud St. John’s because their wins are great (best resume for a 1-11 conference team I can think of) but I’m not ready to say they’ve turned a corner.
Is it possible St. John’s has a boost of confidence and will play better going forward? Maybe, but I think it’s equally as possible they return back to their losing streak and come back to reality.

I've said all year that SJU had too much talent to be 0-10. They noted last night that Mullin has given up on a 7-8 man rotation and playing only 6 guys and team seems to be gelling accordingly. I don't know if they "tuned the corner" but I sure as hell wouldn't want to play them in the BE tourney.

Yeah, it's interesting that both teams featured very tight 6 man rotations (Villanova did play a 7th guy for 5 minutes, but that's it. In looking more at the box score, a few things jump out at me other than the three point shooting: - Villanova took 67 FG attempts to St. John's 55. - St. John's took 12 more FTs. - Both teams didn't turn it over much - Villanova 8, St. John's 10. No doubt, St. John's performed quite well, and it's impressive they did it against a team as good as Villanova. I'm curious to see how it'll translate in other Big East games.

It really would be great for the conference if St John’s gets something going. Look at this coverage:

He's talked trash to me when I used to sit behind our opponents bench a couple of years ago. But I always like the young man. I was all in good fun. That's part of his game, but he's far being a Grayson Allen.

Don’t look now, but the Fighting Mullinses are close to driving a stake in the heart of the Marquette Floor Slappers.
Ponds continues his hot streak with 44 points on 22 shots.

THrilled to see this. This is Mullin's third year. This. A while ago I was reading the Providence Scout message board and they had nothing but negative things to say about Mullin as a coach. On the other hand they were super impressed with Ewing in his first season. These last few days have saved Mullin's job though. And everyone was saying St. John's was overdue because it had such close losses to so many quality teams. The Hoyas are overdue too and the wins will come sooner or later as well. Ding ding ding! Ding ding ding ding!

This Nova/Providence game is a reminder that we are not alone in our end game stupidity.

This Nova/Providence game is a reminder that we are not alone in our end game stupidity. Huge win for Providence. All of a sudden Villanova isn't a lock to win the league title. I don't really like Xavier, but it sure is nice to have the excitement up and down the league standings.

They both have the mighty Hoyas left on their schedule so the those L's will balance themselves out 😉

Keeping tabs on the SJU/DePaul game tonight and it's a tight one - The 7-10 and 8-9 games in the Big East tournament are going to be brutal, no-holds barred, intense battles. Winners of those games (hopefully us in one of them) will be very tough outs in the tournament.

I agee and have been thinking about that exact scenario for a month. I have always thought getting the 7 would have the added benefit (in addition to playing at 7 Thursday rather than noon) of avoiding Nova on Thursday. It is starting to look like getting the 7 seed may actually give us a matchup with Nova. Of course all of this is irrelevant if we don’t win Wed night.
