What a mess. When Ponds leaves after the season... Hello '19 basement, goodbye Mullin. Until a miracle happens... end of program. Well, it was the No. 30 recruiting class in the country until they lost J’Raan Brooks to a decommitment on Thursday. Brooks was their lone top 100 prospect. That said, I do think that Josh Roberts and Greg Williams can develop into nice players for St. John’s. Those two prospects have St. John’s sitting at No. 64 in the rankings. Williams is ranked No. 145 overall, while Roberts lands at No. 227. Williams is intriguing because of his versatility and ability to score the ball. 247sports.com/Article/College-basketball-recruiting-Evan-Daniels-on-Anfernee-Simons-Tyler-Herro-115194122Don't sleep on Mikey Dixon the transfer from Quinnipiac(MAAC rookie of the year), I think he'll be better than Williams next season.. They'll also add depth upfront with South Carolina transfer Sedee Keita & RS Boubacar Diakite..

Lacks great size, length or strength for a point guard prospect,” the site wrote. “Not incredibly explosive to compensate.” The site also questioned his defensive skills and his ability to create for others. “Will need to make real strides as a playmaker and defender over the course of his college career to overcome his average physical tools, but does have some natural talent and instincts to work with,” DraftExpress wrote. A year and a half later, Ponds can’t do much about his size but he has made some “real strides” and NBA folks are taking notice. “I think he has a chance but needs to stay in school at least another year,” one NBA executive told ZAGSBLOG. “If he were to come out this year, he will be headed to the G League to start his professional career.” The latest ESPN mock draft for 2019 released this week has Ponds projected as the No. 34 pick that year. www.zagsblog.com/2018/02/09/nba-personnel-taking-notice-st-johns-guard-shamorie-ponds/

A good piece on Ponds. He will test waters, but it does not appear family is on a rush. Note concluding quote: father sees benefit to staying. nyp.st/2HtWWY1

I would say there is a 99% chance that Ponds ends up in the G League if he jumps after this season.

Hopefully he comes back and starts the Johnnies resurgence with the new pieces coming in next year. Seems as if everytime they get traction, something happens. This year was Lovett, hopefully Ponds can buck the trend and come back. He would potentially be runner up to BEast POY, behind Derrickson of course .

That's got to be some sort of NCAA violation!

Wow. List includes Isaiah Whitehead. Unclear what role the programs themselves play in this story though since it involves agents.

Get your popcorn ready! But with Duke involved it should be a short movie no one remembers.

Documents from the federal investigation into NCAA basketball reviewed by Yahoo Sports show players at least 20 Division I basketball programs received improper benefits, including Duke, North Carolina, Texas, Kentucky, Michigan State, USC and Alabama.

So Seton Hall & Xavier appear to be the only Big East schools. LSU (shocker) MD w/ Diamond Stone. Could be a lot of open prospects.

Also mentions Villanova coaches met with Patton. X coach Chris Mack is only one who issued a statement on part of program and pledged to cooperate with investigation.

Saw Nerlenes Noel's name on one of the documents. No surprise, along with Diamond Stone.

Get your popcorn ready! But with Duke involved it should be a short movie no one remembers. This entire investigation should be really interesting to see what, if anything, the NCAA does to the schools involved. I am not surprised to see most of the schools mentioned, but I am a little surprised to hear Creighton's name involved. I never felt like they pursued, or got, any 5 star level kids. The really interesting thing will be to see if the NCAA does anything to the blue blood programs like Duke, NC and Michigan State. Kentucky is listed and that is not a surprise because everyone has assumed for years that Calapari cuts corners with recruiting. The NCAA did not do anything to North Carolina basketball about the academic scandal and they had former players admitting that they were told to take phoney classes where they did not have to do any work or show up for class, so it is a little hard to expect them to take a hard line now. The NCAA is a joke so I don't expect much from them, but the FBI might be a different story. I am sure Jay Bilas will be on TV soon and tell everyone that they should not believe anything negative they hear about Duke!!!! If some of these schools end up on probation then there are going to be a lot of kids who are verbally committed now re-opening their recruitment for next year soon.

Is this going to be like the Mitchell report in baseball where it all depended on whether your trainer got busted or not? Seems like most people will be in the clear unless their agent gets busted with an actual ledger of payments. I guess we'll have to see what evidence they have on coaches or shoe companies funneling money as part of the recruiting process too. This just seems like an agent fishing for clients.
