NJHoya. What are your numbers saying? I’m not wise enough to interpret these numbers, and will leave it to those who are. From my perspective, plus/minus can be indicative of how a player fared in a particular game, but it can also be skewed by game circumstances. So why do I do it? Easy. I’m a nerd. I like playing with numbers.

This is the problem with +/-. Govan is easily our best player but from the +/- you would have to assume to never play him.

njhoya, have you ever considered calculating lineup +/-? I’ve tried in the past but haven’t been able to consistently input the play by play data from guhoyas. Happy to help if you have the data in a clean format.

LC. . .in answer to your question, while I have contemplated the calculation of lineup plus/minuses, I haven't saved my scrawled calculation sheets. If/when I have some time, I'll go back and try to recalculate the numbers on a lineup-by-lineup basis. As the roster has decreased in size, it may be a little easier. You're correct in that the play-by-play information is sometimes incomplete, and requires more work to recreate playing lineups than one would anticipate.

Thanks njhoya, and again I'm happy to offer a helping hand. Trust me, after seeing the play by play information over the last couple of seasons I have a lot of appreciation for the work you do to put together these plus/minus numbers every game.

Think about it. It's basically the same team as last year minus Agau-Pryor-Peak. Incremental improvement by Govan and Derrickson (plus health) but not enough to offeset the loss of Agau-Pryor-Peak by the additions of Pickett-Walker-Blair.

Yes, plus Pryor and Peak were arguably our best two players and their replacements aren't even close. And that team was 5-13 last year. I know a lot of people blamed our offense and coaching, among other things, but we went from a limited team to an even more limited one.

Your current senior "class" is entirely transfers. 2/3 of your key losses are transfers including one who transferred both in and out. Not included in the losses is another senior who played half a year...and transferred.

There is no doubt that the failure of the Copeland, White, Peak, and Campbell class was and is our current downfall. Basically, Peak was very good, and everyone else was a bust and/or transferred. And keep in mind 3 of those guys were top 40 recruits (at least on ESPN). Ultimately, that's what has led to this team's downfall and the coaching change.

Dickerson was -10 in just 5 minutes played last night. That’s not good.
