There are nine regionals around the country this weekend. From those regionals the top two from each region will automatically qualify for the NCAA championships in Louisville this year. An additional 13 teams will be chosen to complete the field. That at-large teams will be chosen from those teams not finishing 1 or 2 at regionals and based on the number of wins during the season. For the Hoyas the regionals are at Lehigh on Friday. The men are favored to win. The women are ranked third in the mid Atlantic region behind Villanova and Penn State. They have to finish in the top two because they do not have any wins against some of the teams expected to make the field. The men should finish in the top two, but if they don't, they may be out, because they do not have many wins against potential NCAA teams.
The women should compete well for the top two spots, because they are not that far from Villanova and Penn State.

Surprise: Letsrun.com picks the women for one of the at-large teams. This is how that would work: The Mid-Atlantic region: Georgetown and West Virginia are projected as two of the last teams in, so both will be under pressure to run well. West Virginia should be able to make it by finishing in the top four, but Georgetown, which doesn’t have any points in our projection, will need to beat WVU and hope for the push.

I do not think the women will go to the NCAAs. They finished 3rd in the regional meet today. Their only hope was that West Virginia would finish 4th. WVU had enough points to be an at-large team and then push the Hoyas. But WVU had a poor race today.
The top 10:

I don't know the spread for the Hoyas but the 2nd through 7th runners were fairly close.

Arrrggghhhh!!! It does not look as if the men will go to the NCAAs this year also as they finished 4th in the regionals. I don't think they have enough points to go, as they had to finish in the top two today. Only saving grace was that Jon Green won the race and will go to the NCAAs as an individual. Stay tuned for the official standings of those 13 at large teams, but it does not look good right now.

The Hoyas got out to a slow start as evidenced by their place at 7.5K

Now letsrun.com is updating that prediction and Army does not get in and consequently the Hoyas and Villanova do not get in.

The final word (from letsrun.com): Georgetown misses out times two Neither the Georgetown men (unranked but #31 in votes the coaches’ poll) nor the #27 Georgetown women ended up making it to NCAAs. This is the first time that Georgetown won’t send either a men’s or women’s team to NCAAs since 1987 (the Georgetown women qualified for the first time in 1988). It wasn’t a total loss for the Hoyas however as Jonathan Green won the men’s Mid-Atlantic individual title and Martha McDonald qualified as an individual.
Very depressing! 30 years!!!
Congratulations to Jon and Martha.
