Just curious people's thoughts on the remaining 2 open slots for '18. Who do you want/think we go after? At this point, I would think a combo guard and a 2/3 shooting wing would help spread the roster out and fill more needs than a big man. But I am not familiar with us recruiting anyone in that mold. So, any clues out there to what Ewing and staff will do or who we are active with?

I see a couple of the Arizona recruits will not sign their LOI in the early signing period, pending what happens with the FBI. Perhaps Pat and Shaq need to talk!

I think shaqs son shareef is pretty good don't get me wrong but I think he plays the same position as LeBlanc and Carter. We need a pg and a center.
Do we even have 2 schalorships left. I thought we only had one with mourning coming back if he sits this yr.

I'd really be happy if we could pick up another 4 star recruit to even out the 2018 incoming kids. I know centers are hard to find at this point but I would either take a 5 or a 1-2 and make a run for the tournament next year. There's gotta be another stone left to turn up.

We need a big. With regard to Shareef, we scouted him and visited his practice. I was there. He’s a great kid and as polite and respectful as any recruit you’d ever meet. Shaq was not going to send his kid to play for a Thompson when pops never offered Shaq and it was his dream school. Ewing however may be a different story. Not holding my breath, but we do need a big. We are likely to lose Govan.

We need a big. We dont need anymore 4s. We already have Carter and LeBlanc and Derrickson will be back for his senior yr. Walker will also get some mins at the 4 as well.

Generally, my feeling is that unless we can land a really solid 4 star guy in the class of 2018, or someone the staff is really high on, that it might be better to leave the scholarship open until the spring. Guys decommit, coaches get fired, etc.
Also, I think that to some extent, Ewing with a season under his belt is an easier commodity to sell. Even if we are bad, Ewing will have had a chance to show recruits his playing style and his vision for the future. And if we outperform expectations and do well, then recruits might be intrigued and I think it'll be easier for Ewing and the staff to sell Georgetown.
I truly think the best thing Ewing can do for recruiting is to put together a few teams in the next few years that beat expectations. People like to join teams on an upswing, and I think if Ewing can demonstrate improvement over the next couple of years, Georgetown's desirability in recruiting will rise dramatically.
This is exactly what happened in the 2006-2010 era. JT3 put togther some good teams, and the early Final Four in his tenure really juiced recruiting (Monroe, Freeman, Wright, etc.). I am not saying Ewing needs to make a Final Four - he doesn't - he just needs to show improvement. The media loves to write "comeback" stories, as well, so if Ewing does his part on the court, the media will likely do much of the marketing work for us.

Agree that you can land your best recruit late and unexpectedly. Pickett is a recent example. Chris Wright also comes to mind.

There are always a lot of players that de-commit every year, and I would assume that number will be even higher with the the FBI investigation and as more information comes out about schools/coaches and players involved in this scandal. There could be some highly rated players that free up late this season, just to distance themselves from a program that gets included in the scandal, and if Georgetown can play an entertaining brand of basketball and show they are on an upswing, it should be an attractive place to some of those players, who will be looking for a place where playing time is available. They would really only be looking to add one more talented player in this class. If you can get a strong 4 player 2018 class, that should position the Hoyas well for the 2019 recruiting season, where some of those relationships they are building now can hopefully start paying off.

I personally think we need a combo or shooting guard much more than we need a big. As it stands right now our ‘18 backcourt is Jagan, Blair, McClung. K Johnson is more of a wing for me, and Malinowski is really an unknown and reported walk-on. That’s too thin on ballhandlers, ball movers for me.

I like Juggy and MacClung but I need to see them at this level before I'm ready to say we have our PG of the future. I think Mac will be a good off the bench guy but who knows. I think Pickett needs some polish on his game despite some of the NBA hype we read over the summer, so a wing isn't a huge need for us. Sodom will take time and Jessie is likely gone.
PG and F/C are my two biggest concerns. I think Mosley is better off the ball right now, but I guess he could handle the ball some. Front court depth in general is weak, Pickett has the height but not the size or the game to really play inside. We'll see what Walker can do this year - he could easily find himself getting serious minutes as a sophomore for no reason other than he's available. George should never see the floor for us, and Sodom probably can't go more than 10 minutes a game at this point.
