Fox and Stallings would be the types of guys I’d love to see Coach Ewing add to his staff. With Kirby as a recruiter, Stallings/Fox would add a lot on the Xs/Os side. Would you rather get one of them or Raphael Chillious?

"Get off my lawn."
If the mods wish to move the previously-existing coaching change thread to this board, because apparently some users don't like to look elsewhere, that's fine by me.

The past two years at Pitt have been a disaster, and he has a reputation of being quite a jerk in terms of his interpersonal skills. I don't think we (or anyone else) is going to want Stallings anywhere near their program.

I linked the original thread in my post above: hoyatalk2.proboards.com/thread/30513/2018-college-basketball-coaching-carouselVery few people bother to look past the first page of this forum to find topics. Some people visit the recruiting forum more than this one. Strictly a personal choice. We’ll leave this one here for now, but when it falls off the first page it will get merged into the other one. The goal of having separate forums is to focus discussions while not losing topics people are interested in during the process.

My guess is that Uconn will have a tough time getting the kind of high profile coach their fans are probably expecting. That program has some inherent issues that are not going away any time soon. Hurley can get a better job, I don't think Uconn has any shot at him. If I were Hurley - I would research the Louisville situation as deeply as possible, and if he thinks the program can avoid serious tournament bans/recruiting limitations - that is the job to go for.
I think the best Uconn can hope for is Rutgers coach Steve Pikiell. He is a good coach, he played and coached at Uconn. But would even an alum like Pikiell leave the Big 10 for the American conference? Amazingly, Rutgers may actually be a better job than Uconn right now, because of the conference issue.
If Uconn wants to revive their hoops program, their best chance is to beg the BE to let them back in. And we should say "no", unless they drop football down to the same level as Villanova and give up on being a big time football program. Which they won't do, because they are obsessed with getting the big football money some day. Really sad that they have sold out a great basketball program in order to have an awful football program.
The same kind of thing is happening at Pitt. I have no idea what poor sap they are going to be able to talk into taking that job. I think they'll have to go for a really young assistant who would be 5 years away from a big time coaching job anywhere with a remotely healthy program. And when Boeheim finally retires, Syracuse might not be that far behind, although the insane passion of their fan base might allow them to at least tread water in the ACC (which is all they are doing now). But as long as that sweet football money is coming in, the state of the hoops program is really a secondary concern for these schools

Kevin Stallings of Pittsburgh was released 2 days ago. Pitts biggest issue was letting go of Jamie Dixon for Kevin Stallings, the AD was not even trying with that hire. And once the fan base pulled out the paper bags the writing was on the wall in addition to the Virginia game where the team only scored 7pts in the 1st half and ended losing 66 to 37. And the final nail in the coffin must have been going 0-19 in the ACC, leaving the Big East is not an excuse to go win less in the ACC. Houston being in the AAC has revitalized that basketball program, Kelvin Sampson has done a good job there and hopefully he has learned from those past NCCA scandals. Houston could be anywhere from a 3 to a 5 seed in the NCAAT which would be there highest seed since the 1984 season It will be interesting to see if Louisville, SMU and Auburn who has Bruce Pearl (who is has not been helping with the internal violations there) keep their current head coaches.

"The question now turns to: Who will replace Fox? Tom Crean's name comes up a lot behind the scenes. Thad Matta could be another former Big Ten coach the Bulldogs take a look at if they feel he's healthy and they want a more established coach. If they choose to go for a mid-major coach on the rise, don't be surprised if Georgia looks to UNC-Greensboro's Wes Miller or Charleston's Earl Grant." basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/rivals-roundtable-coaching-rumor-mill-conference-tourneys

To be fair, Indiana and Ohio St concluded they were more prestigious than Crean and Matta. Georgia is a tough job. I don't really get the appeal. They play in an aging arena and really don't have a lot of recent basketball success to draw interest. Athens is a beautiful place, though. I went there a few years ago to watch Alabama play a football game. One of the best college towns in the SEC.

Matta is a possible candidate at Louisville, so Georgia doesn't need to be on his radar. This was a topic among those of us that had a lot of time to fill at the Garden after Wednesday at the Big East. You always have some big name candidates in the mix for these kind of jobs (Thad Matta, Steve Alford, Chris Mack, etc.), some retreads (Tom Crean, Buzz Williams, Mike Gottfried, etc.) and some up and comers (Danny Hurley, Scott Drew, Will Wade, etc.) But a name you aren't hearing is John Thompson III. Putting aside his exit at Georgetown (and nearly every ex-coach can empathize with a story like his), a question--does JT3 have a future in coaching?
