Looks like Mnuchin may be a chip off the old Trump.

GOPers made 4 big promises on tax effort: - won't increase the debt: It will by 1 trillion + - designed for middle class: Nope - wealthy & Trump won't benefit: Lolololol - will supercharge economy: Meh, not really The vote on the Republican tax bill was delayed after a report that the economics were off by a trillion dollars nyti.ms/2Aib7y8Very likely that no text of the bill will be available before the vote that is scheduled for today....

WASHINGTON— As the U.S. Senate passed its tax reform bill, Bishop Frank J. Dewane of Venice, Florida, chairman of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops' Committee on Domestic Justice and Human Development, called for Congress to fix fundamentally flawed tax policies as the House of Representatives and Senate attempt to reach agreement on a final bill. www.usccb.org/news/2017/17-137.cfm

Grassley clearly didn't go to school with some of the folks that I did.

"According to Congress' own nonpartisan analysis, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act bills recently passed by the House and the Senate raise taxes on the poor and cut taxes on the rich, violating basic principles of justice," wrote Bishop Dewane. "Congress has proposed a web of wide-ranging and complex changes to the tax code, yet is approaching the process at a pace that makes it difficult even for experts in the impacted areas to analyze effects." www.usccb.org/news/2017/17-243.cfm

I thought Reagan's 'trickle-down economics' had been largely disproven. Yet it appears to be the foundation of this tax bill. Do conservatives still believe trickle down as the most effective way to improve the economy? I do not understand this.

Do conservatives still believe trickle down as the most effective way to improve the economy? I do not understand this. You give them too much credit, there's nothing in that bill to try to improve the economy. It's weaponized partisan policy to get their donor class tax cuts : www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-12-05/-death-to-democrats-how-the-gop-tax-bill-whacks-liberal-tenetsNotice Moore doesn't try to even argue that this is about improving the economy.

www.treasury.gov/press-center/press-releases/Documents/TreasuryGrowthMemo12-11-17.pdfNot to worry, it's short enough that even the POTUS could get through it. Of particular concern is the fourth paragraph referencing "welfare reform" as an engine of so-called "growth". That certainly sounds to me like cutting of social programs for those most in need to fund the massive tax breaks for those who need them least. Forget making America "great" again. In what warped world view is this remotely ethical? Even if you believe in trickle-down economics (though I can't find anyone to explain why they do), this is egregious. I guess we should see the silver lining that those supporting this are not even bothering to lie about it for a change? I'm hoping that karma is real.

I always rather enjoyed poli sci myself, but I'm just wondering now if there is a course in hypocrisy offered to poli sci majors. Same thing goes with the tax and Trumpcare bills as with this voting issue involving Senator-elect Jones (Gosh, that sounds great). The Republicans say that the Democrats did the same thing with Obamacare, when clearly the comparison is only superficially accurate. But the fact is that there is plenty of hypocrisy on both sides of the aisle.
