Let's go with 3. If we double that total, fantastic.

Should be solid for 6, possible for 7 and maybe 8 if we get lucky.
More importantly, I want to see better play in February than in January.

I guarantee the Hoyas win more then 3 games , I think 7-9 games in big east.may struggle early but should be improved by middle of big east and get some wins.

10. Players will be in shape, liberated from too much analysis, and play hard for a leader that demands it.
The front court has two low post scorers that are juniors and should see a big jump in performance. Derrickson and Govan should be among the better players in the league.
IMO the ridiculous late shot clock fouls and easy breezy layups for opposing teams w hobby the wayside. In the all too brief moments when the team ran last year they looked very good. Mulmore and Dickerson w be able to push the pace for easy baskets.
Sodom could be a defensive change of pace and anchor a press.
Pickett could be a breakout freshman. Can shoot from the perimeter and with Govan and Derrickson on the blocks perimeter shots should be available.
Jagan and Johnson are both heady and tough players that will keep the Hoyas together without needing shots.
On freedom from JT III's analytical style, tenacity and front court strength alone his team surprises with 10 conference wins.

Unfortunately, I think kghoya's 4 is closer to reality than paranoia2's 10.
I would happily be wrong, but there is absolutely no reason to think anything close to 10 is realistic. A few points: it is hard to believe that Sodom will be a defensive change of pace and anchor a press. Our team is not built for a press and most accounts indicate Sodom is raw. In the modern game, a pressing style of defense is only effective if you force turnovers, and last year's team tried to press at times and failed miserably because they fouled too much and did not force turnovers.
Our guys played hard last year. Could "freedom" from JT3's style change outcomes? Maybe a little, but not by a lot. Keep in mind, we lost our 2 best players from last year, and we aren't replacing them with anybody comparable. We face a lot of headwinds.

Yeah, I just worry that this will be a lot like Mullin's first year. We will play some games well out of nowhere, but over the course of the year, it's going to be hard to see how we get more than 4-5 BE wins. Man, I hope I am wrong.

The key is not to let a down year sour our prospects for the future. I like the way the program is headed.

My prediction of 10 conference wins is not solely based on wishful thinking:
Patrick has been around great defense and intensity. If he can instill the "dog" mentality in this group there is some serious length and wingspan on the roster. Johnson at 6'8" could be lined up as the 2 at some points.
I don't like Villanova but they "make them feel you" when you play them and grind down the opponent and the referees. No JT III team came even close to that kind of grinder mentality.
I am betting the Hoyas display that kind of intensity. I happen to believ there is a sufficient amount of talent on this roster to get those 10 wins. It is going to be a fun year.

If I remember correctly from that Govan/Johnson interview, we may even run KJ out at the 1 on occasion. Either way, no point in shorting these kids after we all agreed coaching was the problem and we have a new coach who knows how to win. How many wins would you be projecting if we had hired Shaka? My guess is some around here would think he could get us 10 wins, but those same folks are now saying 4. I wonder that we have so little faith in our guys under Pat. I still say 18 BEastly wins

I still say 18 BEastly wins I would think we'd be similar with Shaka Smart unless he brought better recruits with him. I realize people think JT3 underachieved and this group can do better but we lose the two best players on our roster, we don't bring in anybody who can be a proven Big East player (though Pickett could be), and our guys have a lot of flaws. It could be that Ewing'a coaching helps to improve our guys but he can't make magic happen either. Unless we see a huge jump in defensive quality, this group is not built to do a full court press for 40 minutes. If we do that we will be horrible.
