He has good on-court instincts and a good looking shot. I think he has to keep doing what he has shown in the minutes he has played and keep competing in practice. Something opened the door for him to play, he just has to keep grinding!! He is being observed.

Not super athletic, but has good size and stroke. Derrickson 2.0

I saw good defensive instincts as I watched him play last night. Defensively active -- moving his feet, tipping some balls, finding a man to box out. Give me more of that!

Just watched a recording of last nights game specifically to focus on Carter. Sweet stroke and pretty quick feet. Biggest problem is his muscle. Needs to bulk up. If he does I think he could become Derrickson-esque in 2 years.

He got off the floor quicker than I thought he would have and was a bit longer than what I remembered. I think he should get 5 mpg just to give us another 4/5 option that can stretch the floor.

Glad to see them using him at the Center spot because once he gets stronger that will be his best position imo. Will he be able to play C much with the 3 Cs we will already have on the roster? Seems like his best bet at 4 as a tandem with LeBlanc, both giving different looks. I think hes a great backup 4/5 this year and I hope he gets some minutes at the 5 still but the future looks like minutes are more available at the 4.

I would play him and Leblanc together. Grayson guards the 5 on D, and in the offense I would have Josh as my screener in high Pnr and go four flat. Do you pull your 5 out of the paint and into the corner so he can guard Carter? Or do you have your 5 guard Josh who is going to be significantly quicker? Carter can come off screens, he can catch and shoot etc. Most 5's aren't used to guarding players like that, and you have to respect his jumper.

I definitely get it and hope he continues to get minutes at the 5 but the minutes are available at the 4 next year. Tim, Malcolm, and Yurt at the 5 with only Leblanc and some Pickett at the 4. Plus Pat has already shown he is willing and likes having two bigs on the court, especially if either can stretch the floor. Also, even if he is slower then some 4s out there, his length and instincts will help him make up for that. Then the mismatch works the other way around on offense: a smaller 4 will have to guard him down low or try to block his 3-pt shots. A Grayson/Leblanc line-up would be nice and hopefully we see more of that in BE play when Jessie needs rest.

Walker barely played early last year, except in blow outs, but as the season moved along and he became more comfortable with the college game he started playing more. Might be the same thing with Carter. He seemed to be the least ready to play of the freshman when they arrived but hopefully he is developing in practices and will be an asset to the team in the next few months.

Grayson is earning his playing time. As he continues to practice hard and put up lots of shots, he will improve his touch snd then we have another weapon. He looks comfortable in the post particularly defensively. Go Hoyas!

If we can add some more pieces line them we will move to a much higher level.

Was pleasantly surprised that Carter looked better defensively then Jesse..not a very high bar, sadly. Also looked comfortable from three..though it rimmed out.

Carter’s shots have all look solid from the top of the key.

Carter’s shots have all look solid from the top of the key. Happy to see him get meaningful minutes. He has played at a major level in AAU and this kid does not appear to lack confidence to take the open shot. Expect growing pains like the other freshmen, but could be needed by February. It is doubtful that Govan and Mourning can stay out of foul trouble every game.

The sample size is really small but, to be honest, I can't rule out that he may not be a step down from Mourning right now.

I'm loving how hard he boxes out at times. I didn't focus on him every possession, but I saw at least twice where he drove his dude backwards three or four steps. I think the last time I saw that was Mike Sweetney. And Mike was a lot bigger and stronger than Grayson.
