In the annual ranking of college and university complete sports prowess (formerly the Sears Cup or Directors Cup) the Hoyas finished in 73rd place, tops in the Big East. The Georgetown totals got a boost from the men's track team at the NCAAs. 63.75 points out of a total of 297.25 points were picked up by three men on the track team. Providence was 2nd at 79th place.

In terms of how we did versus schools we might compare ourselves to in some way: ND 23, Duke 32, Denver 35, Northwestern 36, Syr 44, Princeton 48, MD, 50, Harvard 58, Cornell 62, Vanderbilt 64, BC 72, Yale 76, Penn 77. I guess you could look at it 3 ways, top of the BE, Middle of pack in Ivies, bottom end of elite academic schools that play high level d1 sports.
Stanford wins this almost every year, though interestingly Ohio state is pretty close to them now and might beat them if the schools could score all sports who placed at NCAA championship level, instead of top 10 mens and top 10 women's sports for each school.
I suspect if you'd ask the admin ad etc off the record they'd probably agree our overall perf in this regard is mediocre

Certainly compared to the relative peers you mentioned it is middling at best... but this is another instance of school endowments and other resources (like Notre Dame's infinite room to expand and build athletics facilities) playing a critical role. Other schools of note: 75. Navy 86. Dartmouth 92. Pitt 92. UConn 102. Georgia Tech 115. Gonzaga 116. Rutgers 167. George Washington 173. American 236. William & Mary 252. Holy Cross 252. Howard 290. George Mason
