Outside of the DC area, stores don’t carry GU gear any longer. We are definitely not a hot brand. You go to places like Lids and you can’t get a Hoya cap. That said, I don’t see the shelves stocked with Nova gear as I travel around the country. State schools dominate the shelves along with Duke and some others.

FWIW, not necessarily an accurate proxy of brand Hoyas are not in top 65 but the likes of Boston College and Rutgers (sneaks in at 65) are. 2016 numbers. www.forbes.com/sites/carlybenjamin/2016/07/12/the-65-most-valuable-college-sports-apparel-deals/#44b3c3a4308f

I cannot sit idly by and let JTIII get trashed for no reason. Top recruits? Otto was a top 40 recruit. DSR was a top 35 recruit. At the time of his signing, domingo was on team USA and high 4-star at worst (i believe). Copeland (5 stars!!), peak, and Paul white were top 40 recruits. Tremont was top 35.
Seeing as though there are generally 23-27 5 star players in any given class, i consider top 40 players as “high 4 stars/borderline 5 stars.” In that sense, JTIII undoubtedly got “top recruits” after we take into account freeman, wright, and Monroe. And no, he didn’t do much with all that talent in terms of postseason success, but please don’t tell me he didn’t get good players after Monroe. That is just false.
I love Ewing and truly believe he will succeed at gtown sooner rather than later, but he hasn’t gotten a single recruit that is even CLOSE to being as highly touted as any of those i mentioned above. That’s no diss of Ewing, he’s only had one full class! Just a quick “eff you” to those who wanna pat ewing (I couldn’t resist) on the back while simultaneously putting down JTIII.

Getting high level talent definitely was not the issue for most of JT3's tenure...

I agree and have said this in other strings. You can throw in that Sapp, Starks, and Clark were all Top 50-75 guards. Nate was a Top 75 player as well. Hopkins was decently rated big man. Greg, Austin, and Chris were all McDonald's AA. JTIII's problem was not recruiting , per se. Summers and Macklin were relatively big time recruits. The White/Copeland/Peak/Campbell class was a monster on paper. The problems were some combination of the following: 1) was he recruiting the proper players for his system; 2) was his system just a loser after awhile; 3) retaining talent (too many transfers/departures/DQs); and 4) poor game planning in critical BE tournament and NCAA tournament games.
