U can bet Adidas wants to keep their players on their sponsored aau teams to go on and play for Adidas schools in college. Especially McClung, he has a following behind him.

Shoe reps only care about the top kids. Kids like McClung do not make them money. But yeah, Adidas programs have better relationships with AAU teams sponsored by the same apparel like dense said.

How's his defense can he defend? From the few highlights I have seen he may not be the quickest on defense but uses his athleticism well. Appears to block a lot of shots for a guard. Have to imagine he can use that bounce to be a solid defensive rebounder as well.

Not loving this development, but not going to poo-poo it entirely.
He seems to me to be a complementary piece to a backcourt rotation for which we don't yet have all of the pieces.
With only Jagan and Jahvon as returning guards (and Malinowski/Pickett as 3s playing the 2 sparingly... hopefully), any guard we sign this year is going to need to contribute on Day 1.
There's a long way to go before next season starts, and I trust (pray?) McClung wouldn't be the only new guard on the roster by then.

With the guys we have and the possible addition of Fleming and LeBlanc we should be good on rebounding and clearing boards. I just hope he can stay in front of his opponent and keep him out of the lanes, whether its a drive or passing I'd like to see if he can shut another guard down.

Kid will do well in an up-and-down style. He is super-athletic. I think we will need to be deep. JT3 offense would have stifled him. Agree, that we need more pieces to complete the roster.

well, he'll put some student butts in the seats, I guess If he can shoot/score consistently he will have a leg up on our guards the past few years even if he isn’t a lockdown defender.

I would take him happily. Same here. Super athletic kid with some excitement to his game and seems to be, from all accounts, a guy willing to put on a lot of work? I think he could be a four-star by the end of his senior year. Looks to be a good fit for the type of offense Pat has said he wants to run.

I'm a bit more high on him. An up n down trapping style defense would suit his game.

If PE gets a commitment out of Mac maybe this will prove that PE plans to play a more up tempo game. Furthermore, maybe this will be enough for a few other recruits to commit to PE and the Hoya's new up tempo game.

I've come full circle on McClung. I think he could be very very good get by the staff. Maybe not immediately, but by his sophomore year he could be impactful. His development reminds me somewhat of Donovan Mitchell who more than likely got paid at Louisville and now by the Jazz. I know I know, I'm sorry.... I forgot to say allegedly. Don't get me twisted, I'm not saying McClung is as good as Mitchell nor did he have the summer scoring the ball like Mitchell did entering his senior year but skill wise at this same stage in their development, there are a lot of similarities. McClung might have a better perimeter shot than Mitchell had at this exact point but Mitchell was taller (6'3") and longer in terms of wingspan than McClung. Mitchell was also a step quicker. Both were recognized for their ridiculous athletism and their mixtapes were a must see. The reason I make this comparison is to say that as a base entering college McClung brings a lot physical gifts to the table for a coaching staff to mold.
I hope McClung becomes a Hoya. If the staff adds him and an upperclassman guard (transfer/JUCO) it will bring very good balance to the roster. Also but more importantly I completely trust Coach Ewing and the staffs vision for the team and program.
