I feel like we could build recruiting momentum if we land an '18 kid or two. Kids want to play with other top players. Securing a floor general would be key. What top 100 recruits do we have a really good shot at? Those are the "top players".

Would love to have this young man. His intensity would ramp up every guy on the team.

As someone who's seen McClung in person playing with the Team Loaded squad, I will say slow your roll on this floor general talk. He's not a Floor General, at least not yet. He plays on the wing for Loaded and is primarily a secondary and sometimes 3rd ball handler for them depending on their lineup. The games I saw, he didn't attack the basket in the few pick and roll situations he was in. He did a good job of keeping his dribble alive and dragging the defense further out on the perimeter but missed the big rolling to the basket wide open. He's got a good looking jumper on both the dribble and catch and shoot. For example when Loaded played Boo Williams in a showcase in Hampton in late May, McClung was okay, made a couple of plays early and completely disappeared until Boo had the game in the Bag. That's when McClung made some of the highlight plays you see on his mixtape.
Yes he's very athletic but I think the staff will need to see more if they plan to use him as a pure PG/floor general. He's got a ton of potential and can absolutely develop into a good player but I don't see him walking on campus and locking down the point from day 1. He gotta develop into beinng a point, learn the nuances of the position. I will say that its good the staff offered him now as he will garner more high major offers especially once high majors start to miss on their initial targets. His athletism at the position and scoring potential (based on his high school stats) will get coaches attention.

Great analysis and agree 100%. Being able to lead a fast break doesn't make someone a PG. How does he create offense in the halfcourt against bigger, more athletic players is my concern and where he has to grow. If you can't consistently break down your defender 1 on 1, then you must excel at PnR.
He looks like a backup PG who can also play off the ball as a secondary playmaker in an up tempo offense. We don't really know what kind of offense we are going to see with the new staff. I would take this kid but I hope he's not the top option at PG. Hope we bring in someone else too.

My sense (or hope) is that Ewing will play a style where he has 2 ball handler decision/playmaker types on the floor together at all times. I hope the staff is able to bring in 2 PG/CG types in this 18 class. As of now we only have Jiggy and Juggy in the backcourt in 2018-2019. I think McClung has the tools to develop in time into a starting high major PG at the college level.

If this is all about making inroads with Team Loaded then I'm all about that.

I LIKE I LIKE!!! LET'S GO HOYAS! Do you think we need this kid? Do we need a floor general? He can be floor general. He has those skills from what I've seen. I need to see how he is on clock management and decision making. I need to see more though. Attacking the basket on a consistent basis?

4. He does boast over 20 scholarship offers, though just recently did Mac McClung see his recruitment hit the high-major level. Skilled, tough, versatile and a deceptively explosive athlete, the Team Loaded product nailed down Rutgers and Georgetown offers last month. He is hard to find playing for his Gate City High program, but this month, McClung could see his stock really soar playing on the adidas circuit with one of the top teams in their league. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/twittertuesday-georgia-tech-targets-unc-strategy-fiba-stars

If they were trying to push him as such, they would highlight more of his playmaking ability. Kid looks good, but hopefully we will do better at the pg position.

Looks like a slasher, shooter, and scorer who might be able to play a little point in a pinch.

Agree. He doesn't solve our PG need, but he checks some other boxes that we need.

Not to say that Mac could or couldn't fulfill the need at the point but I would really like to see us nail down both Jaelin Llewellyn and Mac McClung. That would be a very nice back court!

I just don't see Llewelyn choosing the Hoyas. And I'd take McClung in heartbeat----beggars can't be choosers right now.
