Penn Relays are this week. Best bets for top finishes would probably be the men's 4x mile (or 1500) and the DMR and maybe the 4x800.

Previews:
Women.s 4x800m:
Georgetown returns just one runner, Emma Keenan (Gwynedd Valley, Pa.), with a best of 2:03, from last year’s winning squad. Piper Donaghu (Portland, Ore.) was part of the Hoyas’ third-place team in 2015 as a 2:05 freshman. They are to be joined by Jocelyn Hubbard (Marshfield, Mass.) 2:07 and Kennedy Weisner (St. Mary's, Pa.) 2:09.

Women's DMR:
Georgetown’s two distance titles a year ago – the DMR and 4x8 – were the first women’s watches for the Hoyas in five years. Their DMR lineup from last year has turned over, so they will have to defend with a fresh group of Piper Donaghu (Portland, Ore.), Jody-Ann Knight (Bentonville, Ark.), Emma Keenan (Gwynedd-Mercy Academy, Pa.) and Kennedy Weisner (St. Mary’s, Pa.). Weisner, a 4:37 miler, placed 4th in that event in the Big East this winter.

Men's 4x800m:
Villanova and Georgetown were 1-2 in this year’s Big East indoor championships, 7:32 to 7:35. Local favorite ‘Nova, which has won this event 20 times at Penn, has a lineup of Ville Lampinen, a sophomore from Finland; Ishmael Muhammad, who ran 1:48 in high school (Oakcrest, NJ); Elliot Slade, of Great Britain, who ran 1:47 last summer, and Harry Purcell, of Ireland, a 1:49 best. The Wildcats’ last win at Penn in the 4x8 came in 2014.
Georgetown, whose last win in the 4x8 was 13 years ago, is anchored by Joseph White (DePaul Catholic, Clifton, N.J.), 3rd in the NCAA indoor with a best of 1:46.07.

Men's DMR:
Georgetown was 3rd indoors in 9:33, and 2nd at the Relays a year ago. They expect to use Amos Bartelsmeyer (St. Louis), a 1:51 halfmiler; Quincey Wilson, freshman from Lithonia, Ga., who has run 47.67 in the 400; Joseph White on the 800, and anchored by Scott Carpenter, a 4:03 miler.

Men's 4x 1 mile:
Georgetown, 3rd a year ago in 16:27, plans a lineup of Scott Carpenter (Lenox, Mass.), Darren Fahy (Carlsbad, Calif.), Michael Clevenger (Decatur, Ill.) and Jack Van Scoter, a freshman from Pasadena, Calif. The Hoyas last won the event in 1991.
The Hoyas would probably stand a good chance at this title if they had Amos instead of Jack.

The schedules of these races preclude running your best teams. Amos will run in the DMR and probably in the 4x800, so it would be hard for him to run in the 4x1 mile too. The men's DMR is on Friday late afternoon, and the 4x800 and 4x1mile are on Saturday afternoon.

Down year for the women--first time we've been uncompetitive in ages. Would think only the 400 leg was happy with her perf even though it was one of the slower 400's in the field-good effort by a 200 specialist.

Emma had the 5th fastest 800m, but she has gone about 2:03 last year. Piper was the 6th fastest 1200m. Kennedy was disappointing today as she had the 11th fastest mile. She should have been in the 4:40's. Perhaps she fell?
Help is on the way for the 400m, judging by some of the recruits.

The 2017 Penn Relays marks the 30th Anniversary of the Georgetown Men winning the 1987 Penn Relays DMR in a then World Record time of 9:20.96! The time still stands as the School Record!

Reigning NCAA Indoor third-place finisher Georgetown also could get its nose in it. They’ll likely field a lineup of Amos Bartelsmeyer (a sub-4 guy who’s run 1:51.04 and 3:45.03 this year), Quincey Wilson (48.82 this year), Joseph White (1:46.07 this year), and Scott Carpenter (3:45.12 this year). If you’re wondering where Spencer Brown (famous for The Athlete Special) is, he plans to run unattached this outdoor season but will continue vlogging.
