I think Blair's percentage will go up simply from recognizing and foregoing the off balance/strongly contested shots. Certainly not uncommon for a freshman to hoist up a few quick shots when he has not squared to the basket, Jon Wallace can work with Jahvon on it.

There's just so much overemphasis on him taking long threes (which he makes at a decent clip, from what I've seen) or that end of game shot he took -- which was a pretty good shot. He just missed a floater. I get that his shot selection isn't perfect, but way too many people here (not necessarily you) think "doesn't go in" = "bad shot." Dude has some very valuable skills and some easily improvable weaknesses. Brought this one over from the Josh thread. First, let me say that I'm rooting for this kid. His aggressive shooting style is an antidote for what has been going on here in recent years. I have watched every GU game this season (either on TV or the Internet) and can say that Blair has shot a noticeable number of ill-advised long threes and he doesn't make them at a particular decent clip to justify having the need or freedom to shoot it from that far. PE even sat him for it. I would like to throw numbers to back it up, but I guess the eye test will have to do unless there's a website tracking that type of info. Blair has shown that he needs work on shot selection, esp. distance and shot-clock situation. A gamethread poster nicknamed him Panicman for looking like he has a hot potato when he gets the ball and getting rid of it (shooting or passing) very quickly even with plenty of time on the shot-clock. I would like to think that being a frosh and the lack of shooters has a lot to do with it and that the coaching staff will sit with him with video to look at his shot selection and how he can improve it. During the BE regular season, Blair averaged 5.6 3PA/g in 23 mpg and 32.7% 3P%. That's one of the highest all-time individual 3PA for Hoya freshmen, right behind Pickett. Blair shoots better %-wise when he has a wide-open shot close to the arc or, just like a great shooter, when he's in rhythm. If he could be more selective with shot distance and more aware of the shot-clock, IMO Blair easily could hike his average 5% next season. At the same shooting rate of 5.6 3PA/g, that improvement could be huge for the team.

A lot of improvement this season from Blair. A lot of good to work on and improve. Needs to shake off the last game and work on ball handling, playing under pressure calmly, stronger passes, improving point skills, and get confidence in a solid calm shot.

And a little defense couldn't hurt. Blair beat my expectations, but they were very low. He’s a very one dimensional player right now; a guard who shoots three’s, hopes he gets fouled on his two point attempts, and not much else. A guard who has limited handle and not enough athleticism to drive; a ghost defensively (doesn’t foul but also doesn’t make any plays). However, he does have a knack for scoring in bunches, and he is able to draw fouls which has some value. I personally think he tops out as a sixth man type for some scoring, but I have trouble seeing more than that. I hope I’m wrong, but if he can hit his threes at 38% clip he can still be a contributor.

Neither is a point guard naturally but Blair has a bias for action which I think is a mindset you have to have to lead a team. He needs to learn PG skills sure, but so does Jagan but at least you know he won't disappear. Reminded me of Braswell's swagger and goldfish memory at times.

Kid needs to work on his handles all day everyday from now to fall ...and work on whatever little shuffle of the feet that gets him dialed up for traveling with the ball.

He does not come to a sharp jump stop, he has more of the shuffle stop that you describe. We are lucky that the refs have not been calling it at all, it seems pretty obvious.

I think the additions to the team help Blair the most. Clearly it will affect his minutes as the backcourt has more quality players in it but it will help more then hurt.
1) He will be able to play off-ball primarily. He doesn't have to be a distributor and can focus on scoring. I still think he will have solid assist #s but it doesn't have to be his main role. 2) He will have more set 3-pt shots. Much analysis has been done about his efficiency when square to the basket vs have turned feet. 3) He will be able to drive against rotating defenses, this will lead to more fouls and opportunities at the line.

I agree. I think Blair will benefit from both Akinjo and McClung. Blair reminds me of DSR in the sense that he is at his best mostly as a shooter, and less as a creator and ball handler (DSR actually did manage to create shots of his own, but it wasn't his strength). If Blair can boost his three point percentage up to 40% or something close, he will be valuable. I actually think this helps Mosely too. Mosely quietly shot pretty well (38.9% from three, 51.9% from two), but seemed to struggle more when he had greater ball handling duties.

The other nice thing is about those 4 (Akinjo, McClung, Mosely, and Blair) is that you should be able to play any combination of the 4 of them together in the backcourt. May not be ideal to have Mosely at the point but just saying we have a lot more to fall back on if we have foul trouble....

Don't know what happens with the incoming recruits, but I like Blair's confidence. His competitive confidence along with some of his ability, gives hope for things to come with Blair.
