I'm not sure how the staff isn't already in place. Typically a coach knows who is going to be on his staff before he's hired. That's a big part of the interview process. Extremely common to take 2, 3 even 4 weeks to get your whole staff together. Do coaching prospects have people in mind during the interview process? Sure. But there are issues to be resolved that take time - salary, contracts, etc. Yep, and we should expect and give him more time than a college coach who would already know a lot of those details, have people he'd worked with before, probably had conversations with other assistant coaches on the road, etc. Ewing is coming in with ideas about who he might want to hire, but he needed to start from scratch as a non-college coach and he couldn't have done much of that legwork until he was officially head coach. Which assistant coach is going to get into negotiating with Ewing before he was actually hired? Not the smart ones we'd actually want to hire--that could have backfired badly on them. Other coaches--who were already college coaches--hired around the same time of the year took about a month to build a staff. That's how it happens.

Back to Tremont - hopefully Patrick had a positive meeting. I have hopes, but no expectations, and certainly nothing before Waters talks to other schools; it would appear odd if he were to go so far as to decommit, then change his mind AGAIN and recommit without at least exploring his options.

We're all just guessing, obviously. I tend to feel that the chances of him coming back to the Hoyas will decrease after he meets with the other teams. My understanding was that he was a Hoya fan for awhile and he liked the school, city, etc. If Pat's pitch didn't get him re-engerized for the program, I fear he is moving on.

If our only real competition is Creighton and UConn, I like our chances. UConn is in as difficult spot as we are. He might be from the state, but they're getting crippled right now with transfers. Not many players for him to look forward to playing next to. With Ewing's recent hiring at least our team has more life and energy.
Further, as someone else mentioned in a different threat I'm not sure how Waters would be able to commit to Creighton since cross-conference jumps aren't allowed. Maybe that rule only applies when a player has actually joined the team and played in games? Regardless, not sure why he'd want to play in Nebraska, especially if he supposedly values academics. The only way to seal the deal and make him re-recruit is to make a splash in the grad-transfer market. Give him some players to look forward to playing with.

Syracuse fans are all over Twitter stating that they are on the hunt. He's playing in the Jordan Classic on Friday in Brooklyn, FYI. I think there are more schools than Creighton, UConn and GU. Fingers crossed ... Waters + current roster + 1-2 JUCO/5th Years ... we're in business! Go Coach Ewing!

I hope we have a chance....tremont said Ewing was saying the same things that jt3 was saying....not sure if that's good or bad.....i know Ewing needs to sell that we will no longer be running the Princeton offense

I think Ewing is much more credible in saying he's going to change the offense than JT3 could be. Ewing has no history at all with the Princeton offense so it's a safe bet it will be changing.

Possibly we will see...if he keeps his word that should make gtown attractive to top PG so they will finally want to come here

My impression is that Ewing gave a similar pitch as JT3 regarding academics, tradition, etc. of Georgetown...and then said, plus now that I'm in charge we'll be running a pro-style offense that will not only feature you prominently from day one but will better prepare you for the NBA. That's a pretty good pitch.

Read the 3rd tweet. Waters said Ewing told him we would be running an NBA style offense.

Sounds like he's coming back. He sure doesn't have to worry about Ewing getting fired while he's here.

So much for tweets having no effect on a recruit's thinking about a program...

Can't blame the kid for not wanting to enter into an unstable situation with JT3. As long as Patrick has convinced him the situation is now stable and moving in the right direction, all the other stuff that attracted him to Georgetown is still in place. Would be a great first step for Coach Ewing!!

So much for tweets having no effect on a recruit's thinking about a program... Was it the tweets or the actual facts? I mean, maybe this is too philosophical, but what worried him--the fact that people were tweeting about firing JTIII or the underlying likelihood that JTIII was going to get fired? I'm going to guess where one comes down on that distinction is strongly correlated with whether you think JTIII should've been fired. But whatever, great news. If we can get Tremont back on board and hire a couple of non-Ronny Thompson assistants, it'll be the best April for Hoya fans since 2007.
