With so little live action to date in college , I don't know how much he can contribute next season. Hoping for the best.

Because he's injured and out for the year? If he was healthy, I guarantee we would have seen him on the court this year. Especially the times Doc has gotten into foul trouble. Is he really injured. Hmmm. I agree. If he wasn't he'd be playing this season.

Is it too late to activate him? We could really use him as a third big man playing the 4-5 now that Sodom is gone.

Maybe its cuz I love his dad..but Trey has demonstrated to me , in his limited play that he can be a useful backup piece at the 4 and even 5. Its a shame he is hurt, because he could definitely provide backup minutes when Big East Play comes around.

It isn't like the pros, I believe he would be available when and if he was healthy enough to play. If I remember correctly, redshirt waivers - whether medical or otherwise - are not requested until after the season, so you can always start playing a kid at any time.
Of course one issue here is whether Patrick and Trey have already agreed on a redshirt this year so he can play a full season next year. So then he loses a third of his last college season if we play him now. And particularly if Jessie should go pro after this year, we might need Trey more next season.
Not to mention the question of whether he would be 100% physically at any point this season.

Plus, to some extent this season is already a "lost" season, in the sense that any meaningful type of post-season play is very, very unlikely. So why not leave his eligibility for next year? I don't think Mourning is the answer, for example, if Govan were to leave, but better to have him next year than this year when it probably won't matter.

He’ll be good to go next year. Working harder from what I understand.

Trey will definitely get some minutes next year. He deserves to have a great year, he has put in his time as a cheerleader.

Does anyone know the current status of Trey Mourning and the team? He does not appear to be included in the most up-to-date scholarship table.

Does anyone know the current status of Trey Mourning and the team? He does not appear to be included in the most up-to-date scholarship table. You only get 4 years of scholarship in college - he has either used those up or will have the 4th next year as a grad student. No definitive word from the program that I’ve seen so we left it as is for now. Our table is our best estimate based on what we know - it’s not an official university statement. Chances are he will get an injury redshirt for this year and take the 4th next year but too early to tell.

I hope Trey's dad has been taking him to the woodshed during his time away and he comes back healthy and ready to go.

He has no division one experience to speak of. Must temper expectations.

He has no division one experience to speak of. Must temper expectations. This advice needs to be applied to the Akinjo thread as well as the other freshmen...

This link gives me the opportunity to vent on the Mourning issue. I saw him play against Oregon and Duke at Maui. His energy was amazing and he was effective on both ends of the court. I never understood his treatment under JTIII. I hope he gets the 2 years as I believe he could be a real surprise. I am not attributing his father's success to this comment, but basing it on a very limited sample of his playing (sadly).

I am not attributing his father's success to this comment, but basing it on a very limited sample of his playing (sadly). This is something I have been wondering about as well. That Maui tourney is was solid. Other games he got in his rebounding is what stood out. I think after the Maui games he was injured and sat out a few games, but I'm fuzzy on that. Mourning coming in was an okay outside shooter, sort of in the Reggie Cameron model, but not as fluid. His shooting needed improving. His size wasn't a great fit for inside play on defense nor banging. He showed a good mid-range jumper at times. He is a tough player who is a bit undersized for inside. He seems like a between player for a lot of roles and capabilities. What he showed in Maui seems like it should have translated to playing time. Why JTIII didn't do that I have long been stumped. The heavy Princeton influence years seemed both like Mourning could be a solid contributor, but also it didn't seem to fully fit his capability or open floor play. JTIII's last year with Prior and things opened up a little seemed like a better fit to use Mourning, but that didn't happen either. I'm really interested to see how Patrick uses him.

I just don't see why, if Mourning could have contributed and was so solid, JT3 would have benched him, knowing full well that his team stunk and was struggling so much. I just find it hard to believe that Mourning was ready to go and benched despite being high quality.
We just don't know much about the guy, period. He barely played, and while he showed some flashes, he fouled at an amazingly high rate in his limited play.
It would be great if he could contribute this year (and I hope he does), but with Govan, Walker, Carter, LeBlanc, and others, I'm not seeing a ton of time there.

Not saying those of us who saw something in Trey are right, but to assume III was always correct in his assessments is folly.
