Really sorry to hear this. I guess that means he's out for the non-conference games... bad news for everyone concerned, but hopefully he can make a mark once BE play begins. Best of luck on the rehab Trey.

Any news on the nature/cause of the injury and following surgery? 6 months probably rules out an ACL or severe leg bone break. So maybe a broken foot or PCL or something.

Maybe this was an issue during the season and led to JT3 not playing him, for fear of exacerbating the injury?

Sad to find out about his injury. Really thought he could show a little bit of his abilities this upcoming season especially in NBA style offense where he could be used as a pick and roll/pick and pop floor spacing BIG or stretch Forward. Gotta think the staff will really consider redshirting Mourning. What's the point of rushing him back by at best January in his senior season in a rebuilding year. JT3 already wasted 3 years of his eligibility, why waste his 4th year.

So is there a chance he plays once the Big East starts? Or do they go ahead and redshirt him now?

So is there a chance he plays once the Big East starts? Or do they go ahead and redshirt him now? If he did in fact sit out, it wouldn't be a redshirt. G'Town would apply for a medical waiver on his behalf for the 18-19 season.

Medical waiver generally requires that an athlete misses two years of competition, which can include SR year of HS. Not the case for Trey.

Medical waiver generally requires that an athlete misses two years of competition, which can include SR year of HS. Not the case for Trey. I am not sure how this is possibly true, given that many people (like Aaron Bowen) have gotten medical waivers. Or is it that it's not technically a "waiver" but something else? My understanding is that you only need a medical redshirt if you play during the season. If you don't then you don't need a waiver, since it's basically like a regular redshirt.

I believe there is one potential problem - I am pretty sure you have to sustain a season-ending injury that is medically confirmed. Therefore if you receive medical clearance to return before the season ends - no medical redshirt/waiver.
However he might still be able to get a non-medical redshirt year as long as he doesn't play at all, even if medically cleared to play. But that does not seem to be something we utilize, at least in the past.

Because he's injured and out for the year? If he was healthy, I guarantee we would have seen him on the court this year. Especially the times Doc has gotten into foul trouble.
