Exactly. What we saw during the season was that Mutombo was not part of Cooley’s rotation plans and, thus, couldn’t be considered a Cooley core player. Whether that was the right or wrong way to use Ryan is water under the bridge. What 2003 took offense to was the “Core down to 2 and losing upperclass experience” of my post after Ryan’s departure. He assumed that I had Ryan as a core player. What (I think) he didn’t realize was that I used the same line (with the same number) after Cook’s departure days before. So, I wasn’t considering Ryan as part of that core. Also, I did add to my post after Ryan’s departure "his upperclass experience on and off the court..." First, I don't take offense to anything you have written prhoya. As you know, we have gotten along well in the past, even if we disagree about some things now. Second, you are changing your position after the fact. You said, "Another one bites the dust! Core down to 2 and losing upperclass experience on and off the court… A legacy "portaling" hurts!" While you are now trying to include Mutombo in some sort of "core" by using off court contributions, that's not how anybody--including you---was using "core" to describe our players going forward into next year earlier this year. And others describing our "core" weren't including Mutombo either. Nobody that I can recall on HoyaTalk had any thought that Mutombo would play a significant on court role next year. And he was recognized on senior night, leading everybody to think he was likely done at Georgetown. That is why I am saying it's a red herring. This is really not a big deal, at all, in my mind and totally expected. Nor do I think his transfer hurts very much in reality considering nobody (including Ryan) thought he would be a big contributor next year. As I said, does it hurt optically? Yes, a bit. But it doesn't hurt with our performance going forward. Would it have been nice to have a 4th year senior? Yes. Would it have been nice to have an older guy to help some of the younger guys get acclimated? Yes. But other guys on the roster can help to fill that role. Same here. Second, I did not change my position after the fact. The fact is I wrote the following when Cook left and Ryan was still silent: Another one bites the dust! Core down to 2 and losing upperclassmen… Someone spin this! Sour 🍇? It's clear I didn't include Ryan in that "core down to 2".

Appears rumors he was a done deal to Bama were premature:

For newer readers, Terrence Williams, formerly of Gonzaga College HS, decommited from Georgetown in December 2019 in the week after James Akinjo quit and Josh LeBlanc was kicked off the team. Williams averaged 6.7 ppg at Michigan over four seasons and started all 31 games last season in Juwan Howard's final year at Ann Arbor, averaging 12.4 ppg last season. It's difficult to say if he would have stayed four years in the cauldron that has been Georgetown basketball in the intervening years, but a degree from Michigan and a grad transfer at USC is a pretty good run for him.

"Omoruyi’s world is international. The 6-11, 240-pound Nigerian would make a great addition to Hubert Davis’ latest rebuilding job. He played four years for the Scarlet Knights and has one season of eligibility remaining. As a senior, he played 27 minutes a game and averaged more than 10 points and eight rebounds, plus 3 blocks. Sounds like a good replacement for Armando Bacot. But one reason it may have taken Omoruyi so long to decide is because he is not an American citizen and is over here on an education visa, which allows athletes to have a scholarship but not to get paid. So NIL can get tricky. Kentucky is among the schools that got around the problem by hooking players up in Canada or other foreign countries where they got paid for their NIL, which seems to be perfectly legal if illogical. We should know something pretty soon, as Omoruyi is reportedly visiting Chapel Hill Thursday to meet with Davis and his staff and the available returning players. Let’s keep our fingers crossed." chapelboro.com/sports/chanskys-notebook-portal-madness

and, despite our abundant NIL resources, we're not even rated. Noted NIL powerhouse Saint Louis University is ahead of us, SMH. The Billikens must have a $5M+ war chest.

and, despite our abundant NIL resources, we're not even rated. Maybe, just maybe, the sites on Twitter claiming sources that Georgetown had this boatload of money weren't entirely accurate. But just as likely? Georgetown isn't the brand we think or presume it is. The program can't sell the past indefinitely without some contemporary results. Kids see Michigan, Kansas, even Texas and Missouri on their TV's and their phones in the fall, during basketball season, and no less importantly, in March. They see sold out crowds at home games and the prospect of making it to a Final 8 or Final 4 city. They have no memory of Georgetown ever doing this (two NCAA tournament wins in 17 years, none in the last nine), and Capital One Arena is as much a liability as an asset in recruiting. I call it the Cam Spencer Dilemma: had he come to Georgetown, he returns (close to) home but otherwise ends his career on a 20+ loss team. He goes instead to Storrs and wins a national championship. Which would you choose? Unless and until Georgetown is a consistent NCAA contender, Ed Cooley isn't getting traction with a segment of players who want to win and be seen in March, because Georgetown offers neither right now, and NIL doesn't change that.

And the one thing we do have as a constant: elite academics, doesn’t have the weight it had pre-NIL.

This was a kid that I liked coming out of HS. I'll admit that it was based off what I saw on hoyatalk.
