Umass kids are spending the year at Juco, then going to Houston the year after. They won't play at Juco, so guessing their grades might be an issue. Otherwise why wouldn't you just enroll at Houston so you could practice/play with your future teammates. It also means this may not be over...

I hope the Hoyas get a shot at the Robinson kid, but no matter how this works out the entire recruiting thing, with kids asking for releases at the last minute and changing school a month before school begins is getting really crazy. It worked in the Hoyas favor this time with Jamarko, but it really is out of control.

This is why the LOI system is dumb. These kids commit to schools because of connections to specific people. Look at how a few Butler kids followed Holtmann to OSU. Pickett chose Ole Miss originally because of Bill Armstrong's, his lead recruiter, departure for LSU. Robinson's godfather, Shammond Williams, was on the staff at WKU but resigned earlier this month.
Coaches' contracts are not held to the same standard as the kids and their letters of intent, at what seems to be the detriment of the players.

It's the hypocrisy of the NCAA where it engages in the fiction that the NLI is to the school. Doesn't recognize the reality of how recruiting really operates.

I think the NCAA knows how it works, but what are they supposed to do? They allow a kid to be released from his LOI, and although schools occasionally drag their feet a little, it pretty much always plays out if the reason is a coaching change.

Robinson will likely go over seas. He attended school for 2 weeks, so would not be eligible without a waiver to play this year.

You could be right...it'll be interesting to see if any other options allowing him to play at another school come about... I believe he signed a NLI so technically he's ineligible unless released from WKU (which based on likely bad blood I doubt is an option)...there may be other circumstances involving his leaving that haven't been revealed, but the two weeks of school would likely draw some penalty in any case (i.e.sitting out several games, or being ineligible for the first semester) in a best case scenario...don't know anything, just speculating...

Jeff GoodmanVerified account @goodmanespn Regarding the Mitchell Robinson situation: Told by a source he wouldn't be opposed to sitting out this season somewhere, playing next year.

I've read early commentary on this situation on this board suggesting that some contributors are in the know. Are the Hoyas a viable option for this young msn?

It certainly does not hurt to inquire about him...especially if Govan heads to NBA this season.
