The last year and especially this basketball season have been very difficult. As such, it has brought out the worse in many posters, myself included. I come on here and read the boards and it is so discouraging to read the back and forth pettiness of some posters. For the sake of this program and university, I hope that we can unite with whomever is hired as head coach and move on to more enjoyable and joyous times. We also should remember that whomever is hired is a human being and as such he or even possible she have strengths and weaknesses. I sincerely hope that people on this board can give this new coach a chance. We also have to remember that ultimately, we have 14 (I think) young men who are representing this university. They do try their best and we should honor them as such without personally insulting them. Let's unite and not turn into an entitled whinny fanbase. Restore Hoya Paranoia to its rightful spot in college basketball!

100% agree. The divisive arguing here has driven away many, many long time posters. Some will try to lay this at the feet of the team's performance, but a long look in the mirror is far more appropriate.

There were times, far too numerous, that HoyaTalk was almost unreadable because of the ad hominem attacks that became commonplace. We were all to blame for that. Gunny is absolutely correct. Let's all step back from the ledge.

It's helped some guys have gotten their "goals" achieved, haven't seen a few since. Hopefully everyone will rally behind the new coach and give them all their support, through both the tough and good times.
Lots of good discussion about how to improve the program recently, hopefully it will continue.

Hear, hear! Yes, I've been active these last weeks, trying to bolster the argument to support and keep JTIII. In the parlance of Mark Twain, I was positively laying for some of the anti-JTIII'ers to do battle with, but was unfortunately, yet mercifully, treated nicely and/or ignored throughout the process...ah well. I think we probably all read posts from some like myself that were a little pie in the sky, and others on the other side that were way too dismissive of what JTIII has done, and could still do with renewed support and some fresh recruits. We all also, hopefully, and if you haven't you should look them up, read some recent posts of rbhoya, who gave in-depth and thoroughly satisfying overviews of the situation that prepared me for yesterday more than any of the losses or attrition in the ranks that has occurred these last weeks. Kudos. My loyalties as a townie fan are probably a higher percentage to the Thompsons as a whole than those who actually attended the incredible institution of Georgetown University, so I am hurting pretty bad. However, I too am excited to take this next step with the program, and University, that I love, sure in the knowledge that the legacy of both Coach Thompson's are more than secure in the firmament. Pops made us nationally relevant, JTIII made sure we landed in a top conference with the unbelievably stupid cannibalization of College BBall by College Football, after many said the process would leave us firmly in mid-major status. Bottom line, I am excited for the new chapter, and to throw myself behind the new regime and new and old players, it is an exciting time. So, lets all relax our gnarled hands after these months of internecine squabbling, and get back to the fun part, the basketball itself.
Let's Go Hoyas!!!!

However if JT2 is still here and the football program doesn't get more funding they may return to their agenda against the next coach and basketball program.

Your post is somewhat ironic given that this thread is about civility. Despite your attempt to lump all who were in favor of a change as minions of a certain poster, it is simply untrue. And yes, there was over-the-top rhetoric and name calling, but it was from both camps. I would suggest that it is also time for the pro-III camp to let it go and get behind the team and new coach.

I am fully confident that we will now be able to get back to arguing about the truly important topics: the best pizza in DC, Charlie Daniels Band/square dancing - and the outrageous compensation received by the administrators of this board!!😁

Oddly, the least civil, most vociferous anti-III voices are silent today. Well, voice at least...

Some will try to lay this at the feet of the team's performance, but a long look in the mirror is far more appropriate. What constitutes long time poster? Do I qualify? Joined in 2007 after reading as guest for a year or two. About 1200 posts? (Crossing fingers!) Agree whole heartedly with civility here. Intelligent, thoughtful, respectful disagreements are interesting to read and discuss. Arguing for the sake of arguing isn't.

I would suggest that it is also time for the pro-III camp to let it go and get behind the team and new coach. I have been one of the few consistently in the pro-JT3 camp, and I plan to support whoever is selected as the new coach, even if it's someone that I would personally not choose. I want our program to be a successful, clean, winning program. While I may not have made the decision that was made yesterday, that's really irrelevant at this point - the decision has been made. At this point, my biggest concern is hiring the absolute best coach available, and then I am looking forward to the future, which will hopefully be as successful or more successful as the last 13 years have been. And I truly hope we maintain some link to our past in some capacity, though it remains to be seen what exactly that would look like.
