Will be very interesting to see if there is any future relationship. He still resonated with parents of recruits, but it is hard to think he would want to continue. Will he even want his name to be associated with the new athletic center?
Have to see how it all shakes out.

Think anyone who thinks that JTII is done with the program is being a tad irrational. He built this program up to blueblood status, do you think he can't objectively look at the direction the program was heading in and realize a change was necessary, even at the expense of his son? Doubt he thinks his son had a right for life to be a coach.

I would hope he would view it rationally and see this as his legacy.
But if he believed that the AD and the President were giving his son the opportunity to continue and try to rebuild, then the legs were cut out by the Board - who knows?

Good story By Feinstein in today's WaPo about Bobby Knight and how he has sunk into a chasm of self pity and Indiana-hatred. Can't see GU or JT2 letting that happen.

It will be really interesting to see what kind of statement, if any, JT2 makes about the situation. It would be great to continue to see him, and his name, still strongly associated with the program that he built. On the other hand it can not be easy to see your son let go from a job he put so much time and effort into. The next few days/weeks should be very interesting to see how that plays out.
Loyalty seemed to be a big thing with JT2 and if he feels the school was not loyal to him and his son, it could be an ugly parting of the ways. JT2 has never been a man to not speak his mind when he feels strongly about something. I hope it does not come to that.

His quote of "when I'm gone, if I can't go to heaven, take me back to Georgetown" hangs on the wall of the Thompson center.. I have to believe he'll support the program going forward..

Hope so. But he never foresaw these developments when he made that quote.

JTIII gave a classy statement. Gives me some hope Big John will do the same.

It really depends on who the coach is. If the coach isn't cool with Pops hanging around the players and facilities here will be a big problem.

Birds of a feather tend to flock together.

You would hope who ever the new hire is will embrace the history of Georgetown basketball and be Ok with having JT2 around as an symbol of the past glory and use him as a recruiting tool in cases where it might help. I guess a lot will depend on how much involvement JT2 would want to have with a new coach and his system/program.

I have no idea how JT2 will feel next week, next month, or next year. But I feel real confident in guessing that he's either furious, devastated or both right now.

I know this sounds crazy, but I feel like if someone like Shaka Smart took over, he'd be much more likely to support the program than, say, a Danny Hurley.

I agree with you. I think JT2 would embrace him as the new coach in time. Agree. It's one of the intangibles I've mentioned in other places that may or may not matter as part of the search. Is there a box for appeasing Big John to check, and if it is, then that's a plus or do they not care or want to care? I don't think anyone knows.
