Keep seeing a lot of the same names here (and in the now-locked thread): Amaker, Rice, Hurley, Keatts (when he was briefly available). But I think we have to consider that this actually is a pretty appealing job and that we might be able to poach someone that no one is thinking about right now. Illinois got Underwood from OK State and his name never came up anywhere.
Just a thought. We all know who the hot mid-major coaches are, and who the retreads are...but we might have more options than we think. And the best option might be someone that we haven't even thought of yet.

Skaha Smart is #1 on my list. If Smart is even a possibility and he would consider the move, you need to fully explore any way you can make that happen. He would be an absolute home run as the new coach and the Hoyas would be back in the NCAA tournament in two years at the latest!!

Mike Brey, Tom Crean, Shaka Smart, Richard Pitino, Tommy Amakour, Danny Hurley, Patrick Ewing, Becky Hammon, Randy Bennett, Tony Bennett
My favorites would be Brey, Smart, or Hammon.

Gregg Marshall reportedly makes over 3 million a year. We can't afford him.

Texas isn't working out great, so I'd absolutely take a swing at him. Just about the only name listed that I would even partially be excited about. Obviously, his season at Texas is evidence that even the surest thing is no sure thing. But that would realistically be as well as we could do. I'd take a shot at virtually everyone. Can't hurt. Billy Donovan interested in coming back to the Big East now that the team he signed on to coach is no longer really the team he is coaching? 99% the answer is no. But can't hurt to ask.

I live near Monmouth Univ. and before King Rice came to the program, their Arena was empty and they couldn't pay people to go to games. Within a few years King Rice has turned the program around. They had two successful seasons and are playing to packed houses. Monmouth beat us last year, as I knew they would. Rice is very smart, tough and the players seem to love him. If he's interested, I would hope he would be considered.

Hope you are not serious. 100%. Find me somebody with so few questions. I Don't t see much point in guessing people who won't leave where they are. I like Shaka's intensity. He seems like a pretty smart coach. Even though, I would try to sway Ollie away from U'Conn.

John Becker Mitch Henderson Dave Paulsen Sydney Johnson Why are you shooting so low? I'm not shooting low. I think the majority here really is looking past the role of academics on a resume. Our last two hires have been a longtime assistant who knew the way Georgetown ran, and the top coach in the Ivy League. I have strong doubts anyone from the Big 12 or the SEC or the coach of UCONN are the kind of resume being looked at here.

Mike Brey, Tom Crean, Shaka Smart, Richard Pitino, Tommy Amakour, Danny Hurley, Patrick Ewing, Becky Hammon, Randy Bennett, Tony Bennett My favorites would be Brey, Smart, or Hammon. I'd love Brey - no reason to think he's interested in leaving ND though, right?

I agree on Smart and Rice, but also on Enfield. While we made him the flavor of the month, he's done a great job at USC. I rather doubt, though, that he would be interested in leaving USC for another total rebuild.
Also, while I think that some day a woman will be named head coach of a men's division I college basketball program, I don't see us being the school to make the leap.
Danny Hurley and Archie Miller would also be good choices.

If we can't get Bob Huggins (think of the money we'll save on wardrobe expenses!), I'll give you a long shot name. . .Shaheen Holloway. Associate head coach at Seton Hall. Familiar with Big East. Solid recruiter. I wouldn't be shocked.

Frank Martin. Yes, SEC school and they would probably pay him anything at this point if we started sniffing around...but he has built the program at South Carolina from the ground up and plays a style that all Hoya fans would get behind. Took Kansas State to the Elite 8. He also suspended the SEC player of the year for 6 games this year due to academics, has kicked off multiple players that didn't perform academically, and understands how to interact with fans and the university community.

My alma mater. Virtually no shot he would leave USC. He loves the community and the community loves him. Plus, no offense to him, but he doesn't seem to recruit or prioritize high academic kids
