No issues with UVAs program. Players that are leaving see the writing on the wall with PT. When you're passed by underclassmen and you haven't locked down minutes in the rotation it's probably time to go. I don't claim to be an expert on UVA, but Shayok and Thompson were both rotation players who got over 20 minutes a game this year. They don't exactly seem like players who are being passed over and riding the pine. Shayok seemed like one of their best players after perrantes the few times I watched them. I would take both of those guys. Thompson had a 105.5 oRtg a 21.4 assist rate good steal and block rates and hit 35% from 3. Shayok would've been their leading returning scorer.

When are we "allowed" to start officially having conversations with grads and jucos?

When are we "allowed" to start officially having conversations with grads and jucos? Depends. If we hire Amaker, he just has to find the right grocery stores.

Might as well make a thread to keep all possible targets and news in one place. I'll start out: Rice has a 6'5" small forward Egor Koulechov who can grad transfer who averaged 18.2pts and 8.9rebs on 47%/47%/82% splits. Not a grad transfer but there's a couple rumors out there Marcus Evans PG from Rice might transfer. Originally from VA, averaged 19 as a Soph, would be one to keep an eye on,.. Corey Evans @coreyevans_10 Rice sophomore guard Marcus Evans has received his release to transfer, per source; is a two-time all-CUSA first-team member 22m

Edited the thread title to include JUCO players. I'm OK with that. We need players but not ones that have similar games to the few players we actually already have.

Why did he miss so many game last season? Was injured. I'm assuming he could count last year as a red shirt. He is a ball dominant guard that creates a lot of trouble for defenses by penetrating into the lane where he either puts up a layup/draws a foul or kicks it to a teammate. This past season ended after only two games when a high ankle sprain ended up requiring surgery. He put up 27.1 points per game the year before (his junior year). According to kenpom, in 2016, he ranked 2nd in the nation in percentage of shots taken (37.1% of all Howard's shots) and 5th in the nation in percentage of possessions used (35.4% of all Howard's possessions). That is a lot. His shooting also leaves a little something to be desired - only managing 42% from two and 32.9% from three. On the plus side offensively, he shot 84.5% from the line (95th highest % nationally) while drawing a ridiculous 8 fouls per 40 mins (4th highest rate nationally). He also put up a very respectable 20.2 assist rate. Defensively, he seems to be pretty sharp. He gets a steal on 3% of defensive possessions and only commits 2.2 fouls per 40 minutes. Both are very strong numbers.

I have my annual page of immediately eligible grad transfers to track: 2017 College Basketball Free AgentsOne note on guys like Elijah Brown and Marial Shayok: they cannot play at another Big East school because they signed NLI's with a Big East school coming out of HS. Brown played the one year at Butler and Shayok was signed to Buzz Williams at Marquette before Williams left for Virginia Tech.

Didn't even dress for a game this year. I've heard rumors that his knees are more or less shot.

I get it right away they can't sign with a BE team, but didn't think it still applied for transferring from a non BE school. Also isn't Shayok's NLI invalidated since Buzz left.

There are no recruiting rules prohibiting them from transferring back into the BIG EAST after initially signing with a BIG EAST school and then transferring out of the conference. Brown and Shayok can play anywhere in the BIG EAST if the opportunity is available. An example is Harrison-Docks who played his first semester of college ball at Butler, transferred to Western Kentucky and was a Graduate transfer at DePaul this past season.
