Remember when so many could not understand how Dozier could possibly choose South Carolina over Georgetown?

Oregon Ducks were very impressive tonight in their win over the Kansas Jayhawks 1st Final Four since 1939 Who under performs more in the tournament Bill Self or Roy Williams? Doesn't it have to be Bill Self? I heard that he's coached a number 1 seed eight times, and only one of those teams made it to the Final Four. That's pretty amazing (his other Final Four team was not a 1 seed).

He may not be a legendary coach but that sort of performance is still a great coach... 2-7 in the Elite 8 still means 9 Elite 8s in 14 years which is pretty damn impressive.

With the talent Kansas has Bill Self should be better than 2-5 with them in the Elite 8 2004 as the #4 seed lost to #3 Georgia Tech 2007 as the #1 seed lost to #2 UCLA 2011 as the #1 seed lost to #11 VCU 2016 as the #1 seed lost to #2 Villanova 2017 as the #1 seed lost to #3 Oregon It looks like Bill Self has issues beating teams that can match his teams talent level in the NCAA's The last 5 losses he has been the higher seed, you got to find a way to close the deal

Being the one seed comes with A LOT of expectations. Now I'd love to have those expectations but it's just another piece of motivation for very good teams to beat the higher seeded team.

Or maybe seeding isn't perfect. Losing to a team seeded within a seed or two is, in a lot of cases, a toss-up game from the start. Regardless, nice problem to have.

Seeding is definitely not perfect. It's all an inexact science. Also, a #1 seed losing to a #3 seed isn't exactly a huge upset. Yes, the 1 might be the better team, but in many instances it's not that huge a difference. In 2011, against #11 VCU, Kansas was 80.8% to win according to KenPom - large odds, but you're still losing 2 of every 10. So losing isn't as big an upset as it might seem in one game elimination.
In 2016, according to KenPom, Villanova was actually a 50.3% favorite - but it was basically a 50/50 game despite seeding.
And in 2017, Kansas was a 67.4% favorite over Oregon. So still, they're losing 1 of every three games on average, so losing in a one game elimination isn't shocking.
The NCAA tournament is built for exciting games and fun, but it's not built to determine the best team. Otherwise, you'd have a smaller set of teams and do best of 5 or 7 series like the NBA playoffs. People read way too much into individual tournament games. That's true both at Georgetown and everywhere else.

I am not on the it is luck band wagon... I remember when poster said of our NCAA losses well if we keep getting there we are bound to get to another Sweet 16 10 years later and we are still waiting. Bill Self is 2-7 in Elite 8 (22%) @ Kansas in Elite 8 2-5 (28%) This is an under 30% winning percentage @ Kansas These Elite 8 games are not even a 50% coin flip toss with the talent Kansas gets If things go south, Self is not going to get the benefit of the doubt with the Jayhawk nation Bill Self up until now has been lucky that this is happening in the Elite 8 and not the earlier rounds If he gets beat in the Elite 8 next year for the 3rd year in a row, I expect for him to be on the hot seat

The problem is that we weren't getting any seeds because we weren't making the tournament at all. If JT3 continued to get into the tournament higher seeds, he would not have been fired, even if fans wouldn't have been entirely happy. I mean, in the last 7 years, Self has made three Elite Eights and been the NCAA runner up, and had a sweet 16. That's a record I would take any day. He actually proves my point that if you keep making it with high seeds, wins will come. Even despite the fact that he's only been to two Final Fours (one of which ended in a championship) in his career, he's made several elite eights. Making the Final Four is hard - there are only four teams that make it! (Statement of the obvious, but I felt like it needed to be said.) So maybe Self has underperformed the seeding, but his record is still amazing. If Kansas makes another Elite Eight next year and puts him on the hot seat, they are stupid. And I would gladly hire Self for our program.

Any notion that Self should be within shouting distance of the hot seat is wacky IMHO.

Of course, SC should have the #1 golfer; there are enough courses there and people retire to play golf there.

My 15 year old grandson plays constantly. He shot a 72 in a tournament a couple of weeks ago so he is way out of my league. However where I live is tennis country.
