I chuckled at the author claiming a "quote was provided to Deadspin." It was a comment at the press conference.

It's spreading across all media. All media? It's a blog, and it was covered there mostly because the staff writer went to Georgetown and covered them while an undergrad. The program isn't important enough for the discussion to spread "across all media".

I chuckled at the author claiming a "quote was provided to Deadspin." It was a comment at the press conference. It probably was provided to deadspin as a written statement. The script will be the same whenever this question is asked.

The program isn't important enough for the discussion to spread "across all media". correct. unfortunate, but correct. This is wishful thinking. Several national writers and TV types have now weighed in on the horrid state of the program. And we are really only one week into this - the DePaul loss opened the floodgates, and each subsequent collapse has/will increase the spotlight. JT3 should hope his season ends quickly, so the college basketball world will be distracted from this noxious tire fire of a program.

The idea that what Chris Cillizza has to say about the program holds any water to the extent that you'd actually quote him is just beyond me. Whole article is a dumb take - the argument is mob rule, consecutive losing seasons = fire - and the only arguments provided against are "Dad". Nothing about facilities, nothing about what JT3's contract status is like, nothing about Waters, nothing about the state this program was in before JT3 took over and the possibility that things could really get much worse.
Deadspin turns out some interesting takes, this isn't one of them. Not sure why they let this writer throw what amounts to a Hoyatalk grump onto Deadspin.

Exactly. Our situation is frustrating, trending toward hopeless across the fan base - but it is limited to the performance on the court.

Not sure why they let this writer throw what amounts to a Hoyatalk grump onto Deadspin. Mainstream blogging is a quantity business. Each writer has a certain # of articles to write a day. Not every story can be "Notre Dame Linebacker's dead girlfriend doesn't exist"

The hyperbole and sense of entitlement is laughable.
This program is not on probation. It didn't receive the Death Penalty from the NCAA.
No academic fraud or scandal. No bouts of domestic violence, rape, or paying of prostitutes.
No...we just have had two losing seasons. Unacceptable. Oh, the end of the world. lol
People need to get over themselves.
The petitions, rallies, and same ole stuff during the end of the Esh era.
We were in the Sweet Sixteen two years later. Things change quickly in college basketball.
Whether JTIII is the coach or somebody else, we'll be fine and recover from this 2 year losing slump.
Just take a deep breath. Relax. There is a world outside of blogs. It is a thing called life, where basketball isn't everything.

Just seems like the season can't end soon enough for him; he really needs to come up with a big effort against Nova or in the BET to at least quiet the voices. Ending the year getting blown out at the Verizon Center and then losing to St John's at MSG will be an awfully tough end for the administration to ignore...

Agreed - hilarious to marginalize deadspin. that goodman article is sort of brutal. i take no pleasure in all of this but i don't think III has the tools to turn this around.

I chuckled at the author claiming a "quote was provided to Deadspin." It was a comment at the press conference. Oh, and Goodman presented this same quote in the same manner. It seems that the quote III gave after the St. John's loss is now being released by the university as III's statement on the current state of affairs.

If JT3 were really on the hot seat and was really in trouble, someone would go on record.

If anybody has ESPN insider and would care to share the recruiting article by PM that would be much appreciated. The Goodman article isn't great, but really, it's nothing new or unexpected. This isn't a description of something like the circus that was Ben Howland's program at UCLA, for example.
(1) "Everyone knows a change needs to be made," one former player said. "But no one will dare stand up and say it." This echoes the opinion of many on here. But clearly, not "everyone" knows that or it would happen.
(2) "Everyone is scared to death [of JT Jr.]" "Loyalty and fear," one told ESPN on why they weren't willing to attach their name to anything. "Fear of Big John and where you stand. You don't mess with him." "I'm still scared of him, and I'm a grown man now," added another.
Do these quotes surprise anybody?
(3) "I love the school, and he's a really, really good man," one former Hoya said of JT3. "But he's just not getting it done."
Clearly, JT3 hasn't gotten it done over the last two seasons. I don't think anybody disputes that. But the question is, is that enough to make a change? Therein lies the disagreement.
(4) "How many more years are they going to give him of not making the tournament?" asked one former player." My sense is one more after this season.
To those who say JT3's record merits firing, answer this: Mike Brey missed the tournament three consecutive years in the early 2000s. Clearly, he has rebounded from that quite well. In the last of those three seasons he went 6-10 in the Big East. Would you have fired him back then?
(5) "He still tries to recruit high-level guys, regardless of the fit," one player said. "He needs high-skilled guys, not necessarily the top talent. Obviously, some of the guys fit well -- but most of them don't. "Georgetown actually looks like the team the Princeton offense was actually built to beat."
I think that's probably a fair statement, assuming we are going to play textbook Princeton offense. I don't think we do, but I think high-skilled guys are definitely needed. And we do need them. I do think the types that are missing are people like Jon Wallace, who might not necessarily be super athletic but who have at least one great skill.
(6) "It's embarrassing," one former player said. "And something needs to be done." Again, not a shocking sentiment.
I agree our losing stinks. Of course, you don't want to see any article like this if you are JT3 or Georgetown. But, what this really amounts to is "Georgetown has been bad the least couple of seasons, and we are frustrated and want to do something about it." There isn't one criticism against JT3 personally. The only statement that can in any way be interpreted as criticism is the recruiting comment, and that's not something shocking.
I think the article is only "shocking" in the sense that it'll make more people aware that we have stunk. That's about it.
