How elite do you think his defense is? average NBA level. Elite NBA level defense?

How elite do you think his defense is? average NBA level. Elite NBA level defense? Above average with potential for elite. It also depends on which position he is guarding. He played the 3 too often this past year and had to guard taller players which sometimes didn't have the best outcomes.

He actually may have a decent outside shot of making a team as a defensive combo guard because he has an elite skill that NBA teams need given the proliferation of high octane offensive guard. I think a defensive stopper off the bench is at a premium in the league right now.

I love Jagan so much and he’s taken more charges than any player I’ve seen but he is not an elite defender. Above average on his best days. Not sure his feet are quick enough to be elite. He specializes in guarding slightly bigger players because of his length. Either way he’s good, but not an above average NBA defender but there’s still room to improve if he wants to fully specialize in it.

I agree, if he can work on his 3pt shooting to become more consistent then I def think he has a shot as a defense first combo guard. He showed he has shooting ability during the first half of the the season but his shot fell off during our losing streak to end the season. We already know he has the prowess to take it to the rim. He may not sniff at the league initially but with work he can get there as a bench role player.

I actually think his defense is quite good, but he needs to practice the corner 3 (500+ a day levels) to increase his chances. I don’t think you can have only one elite skill in NBA. Generally I think his size is the issue. At 6’3” he can only guard the 1, maybe the 2. I assume he can, even though he mostly guarded 3s in college. Anything is possible though. If he improved his 3pters and was 3 and D guy...maybe.

He played the 3 too often this past year and had to guard taller players which sometimes didn't have the best outcomes. I am a huge Jagan fan and I think he is a really good college defender, but when I think of an elite defender, I think of a guy like Tony Allen, who the Celtics drafted probably about 15 or more years ago. Allen had elite quickness and instincts and was an unbelievable defender for his entire NBA career. When he first came into the league, his offensive game was very limited, but over the years he became a passable 3 point shooter and a decent cutter/slasher. I don't think Jagan is the type of defender that Allen was but if he does seem to have an incredible work ethic and maybe he can continue to develop both defensively and with his shot.

I don't think Jagan has the type of lateral movement or elite twitch muscle to cover tough NBA guards, many of whom will be as big or bigger than he is. That said, he's a very smart, determined guy with a great work ethic. I would never rule him out making an impression and becoming the last guy on the bench -- mostly for his intangibles (aforementioned and even in the way he sees the play as evidenced by his positioning and willingness to take the charge). Still, it's a reach unless he turns into an absolute knockdown 3 point shooter at that level as well.

This^ Jagen can make a role in the L as stopper if he can get a invite to someone's camp. I can see Jagen with a Tony Allen type role on a team if he can provide a consistent J.

Congratulations, sir! I recall that it was always your dream to obtain a degree from an institution like Georgetown.
