For inadvertently summing up in one sentence what is wrong with Washington and our government.
When you say that "politics is a noble profession" you reveal how our political class views itself. Politics should be about service. Our founders had real jobs and real professions. They went home to those jobs and professions.
What we have today are people who view service as their job and their source of income.
And that is the problem

People who have service as a job and a source of income :
- firefighters - Doctors - nurses - police - teachers - Priests, Rabbis, clergy of all kinds - a lot of non-profit workers
Thinly veiled talking point from an insincere partisan to defend a President with widespread conflicts of interest and potential corruption. He's the honorable one because he has a "job". Not the people who put service first.
Up is down, black is white, facts don't matter.
I'll even go one step farther to argue why we need politicians focused on one thing and not their own businesses : issues are way more complex than they were in the 1700's. Politicians need to be subject matter experts about a wide variety of issues - climate change, opium addiction, health care policy, immigration, foreign affairs, tax policy, economics, etc to make informed votes. Money in politics is such an issue that national politicians need to spend most of their waking hours either working or fundraising. If you make the argument that that shouldn't be the case, well, the issue really is money in politics then, not the fact that politicians are focused on one thing.

This has nothing to do with partisan anything. Government has become about staying in government, not service. Both parties. If you think Barbara Boxer or any of them go to Washington to help anyone but themselves, she has a Golden Gate Bridge to sell you.

Having a job or a business outside of politics does not change that. Your argument here is for more Darrell Issas and less Bernie Sanders. Being a used car salesman doesn't make you a better servant or more in touch with the needs of the people.

My argument is that the never ending expansion of government has created a ruling class that has no interest in helping anyone but itself. Not Republican, not Democrat, nor Green, not Libertarian all of them.

Our system of government requires that a member of the House or Senate say what is politically expedient. For example, no one can tell the coal miners what they should be hearing and that is; Your jobs are dependent on one thing and one thing only. And that is "The demand for coal." If there is no demand for coal, they are going to lose their jobs. If the demand for coal increases or stays the same you are going to keep your jobs. It's that simple. Trumps promise to the miners to save their jobs is nonsense, as is Hillary's silly comments to destroy their jobs. Unfortunately, a member of the House is only their for two years, so as soon as they get there they have to start campaigning for re-election which means saying what is expedient.
