Will be held at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx (my birth place) on this Friday, Oct. 28. The men should be favored. Provy women should be the favorite on the women's side. It will be a chance to see if the injured runners for the Hoyas will be back. The men are the defending team, while Provy women are the defending champs on the women's side. The women are trailing Providence and Villanova in the national polls.

Not XC but the Hoyas did well in, the 60th Annual Track and Field News Relay Rankings. The rankings in include the 4x100, 4x200, 4x400, 4x 800, 4x1 mile, Sprint Medley, Distance Medley, and Shuttle Hurdles. The men were ranked 10th in the country with a 3rd in the 4x mile and a 7th in the DMR. The women were ranked 3rd in the country with a first in the 4x800,a 3rd in the 4x1500, and a first in the DMR. In combined men's and women's score, the Hoyas came in 4th in the country.
Unfortunately, one of our key runners is not on the roster this year, as Sarah Schmidt probably has not returned from Germany.

Letter from Julie Culley on the BE XC race tomorrow. In it she explains what went wrong with the women at Wisco:
The men's team is lead by Junior Scott Carpenter whose breakthrough season has consisted of an individual win at the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh on October 1, and a 16th place finish at the Wisconsin Invitational on October 14. Carpenter will be in the front pack at Big East seeking his first individual title while leading the Hoyas to vie for the team title on Friday morning. Georgetown's 2-3-4 positions have consistently been filled by junior Christian Alvarado, Senior Mike Lederhouse and Junior Amos Bartelsmeyer with the fifth position up for grabs. The Hoyas are coming on strong as we head into the post season and have high hopes for a few conference and regional titles along the way.
The women's team returns to action after a 2nd place team finish at the Paul Short Invitational which saw some of the fastest times ever run on that course in Georgetown history. Expectations were high heading into the Wisconsin Invitational, but an injury mid-race and illness heading into race weekend meant a sub-par performance for the women's squad. Their frustration has fueled them to seek revenge on their Big East foes and perform to the capacity their fitness has demonstrated in practice at Big East this weekend. They will be clawing for every last inch as they cover the 6K course in VCP. The women's top five has changed week to week with Freshman Paige Hofstad, Junior Piper Donaghu, Junior Autumn Eastman, Junior Josette Norris and Junior Kennedy Weisner vying for top position. Our 1-5 spread hasn't exceeded 30 seconds yet this season and we'll hope to have an even tighter finish this weekend in NYC.
Come cheer on the Hoyas this Friday in New York City at the Big East Championships! The women's race begins at 11:00 a.m. and the men's race starts at 11:50 a.m. Later that evening the Spiked Shoe Club and the Georgetown Athletics Annual Fund will gather at Casa Tanteo Loft, a tequila tasting lounge owned by alum, Neil Grosscup, from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. for an alumni get-together. Join Coach Bonsey, Coach McKenzie, Coach Palmer, Coach Gagliano (and Robbie!), and myself for a casual evening with friends, old teammates, and coaches! Space is limited so please register here.
Also on the alumni calendar is our very first Distinguished Alumni Breakfast where the current team and coaches will honor and hear from one of Georgetown's finest, Tyrona Heath (F'02), about her experience as a Hoya and life after Georgetown. Please RSVP here if you plan to attend. The event will be held at the new John R. Thompson Jr. Athletic Center at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 6.
We are looking forward to an action packed few weeks heading into the cross country post season and with our alumni events. Follow along on Facebook and Twitter to keep in the know! Thank you for your continued support of Georgetown Track and Field. We look forward to reporting great news about our performances in the coming weeks.
She didn't mention Audrey Belf on the women's side and Darren Fahy and Jon Green on the men's. Apparently, all are injured, which doesn't help us.

This quote from Scott Carpenter in the Hoya is puzzling:
“We definitely haven’t come together as a team yet,” Carpenter said. “We also have a couple of injuries with guys who could potentially come back for us, maybe not this weekend, but in the future. We also have guys who aren’t coming back at all so we need to put that aside and move on without them and really just run for each other, run for Georgetown and see what we can do.”
I wonder who the guys who aren't coming back at all. I know Ahmed Bile could have run, but he is gone. Any others? Darren Fahy has not run this year. Jon Green has run, but he has been hurt.

The women came in third today to Providence and Villanova. Villanova is top heavy, so I was hoping we could put all five runners before their 4th and 5th. However, they got their 4th and 5th runners ahead of our fifth runner:
1 Providence 3 4 6 8 15 (16) (26) 36 2 Villanova 1 2 9 18 19 (32) (40) 49 3 Georgetown 10 11 12 14 21 (25) (38) 68 4 Butler 5 7 22 28 31 (42) (52) 93 5 Marquette 17 20 30 35 36 (44) (47) 138 6 Xavier 23 29 33 37 39 (45) (51) 161 7 Creighton 24 34 41 50 58 (64) 207 8 St. John 13 43 48 56 57 (61) (67) 217 9 DePaul 27 46 49 54 59 (62) 235 10 Seton Hall 53 55 60 63 65 (66) (68) 296
Individuals:
10. Kennedy Weisner 21:33.9 11. Autumn Eastman 21.45.2 12. Josette Norris 21:49.5 14. Paige Hofstad 21:52.4 21. Piper Donaghu 22:05 25. Margie Cullen 22:20.1 39. Haley Pierce 23:08.5
Very nice run by Kennedy and also for Margie, as she made the top seven. Not having Audrey Belf hurt us today.

The men are the Big East XC champs. They won the race easily without Jon Green and Darren Fahy.
1 Georgetown 2 5 6 9 11 (12) (16) 33 2 Providence 4 8 13 19 21 (22) (23) 65 3 Butler 3 14 15 17 20 (24) (26) 69 4 Villanova 1 7 10 31 34 (36) (46) 83 5 Marquette 18 25 29 30 35 (39) (43) 137 6 DePaul 28 37 40 42 49 (55) (57) 196 7 Creighton 27 33 45 47 48 (59) (62) 200 8 Xavier 32 38 44 50 51 (52) (56) 215 9 Seton Hall 41 53 54 58 60 (61) (63) 266
The men placed their first five runners in the top 11 and all seven runners in the top 16. That is domination. As expected Pat Tiernan from Villanova (and Australia) won his fourth BE XC title. He was the first to win three titles last year, and now he is the first to win all four years.
Individuals
2. Scott Carpenter 24:28.7 Scott continues his great running this year. 5. Amos Bartelsmeyer 24:45.1 Amos continues to show his versatility, four minute miler plus top five at XC. 6. Michael Clevenger 24:49.8 Our transfer from Notre Dame has come into his own 9. Mike Lederhouse 24:59.7 see comments about Amos, the same for Mike 11. Christian Alvarado 25:05.9 Solid season for Christian 12. Jack Van Scoter 25:09.1 Great start for the freshman 16. Matt Bouthillette 25:17.7 Matt and Jack should be leaders next year on the XC team.
