The Hoyas run at Lehigh this weekend in the Paul Short cross country race. The men will be running in the gold race against 41 other schools. Their biggest competition should be Iona, which is quite a XC power, several of the Ivy league schools, and maybe Florida.
The women will be running also in the gold race against about the same number of schools and their competition will be the same schools plus Villanova and West Virginia and Adams State, a division two powerhouse. Also, the women will be running against their coach's alma mater, Rutgers.
Chance for both men and women to move up in the rankings.

There is also an open race. Since each team is allowed 10 runners in the gold race, teams that want more than 10 runners will have the open race to accommodate them. I can imagine the men having up to 15 runners in the two races.

Women's gold race
1. Yale 92 2. GU 119 3. Penn 127 3. WVU 127 5. Florida 6. Nova (looked good through their first four)
Georgetown 11. Paige Hofstad 20:24 12. Piper Donaghu 20:24 16. Autumn Eastman 20:29 27. Josette Norris 20:40 (transfer from NC) 53. Maddy Perez 20:54 67. Sarah Cotton 21:05 71. Kennedy Weisner 21:07 97. Maegan Doody 21:20 109. Margie Cullen 21:27
Right now it doesn't looks as if we have a low stick. Haley Pierce and Audrey Belf were missing. I expect Maddy Perez and Sarah Cotton will improve during the season. Paige is looking really good now.

The men's gold race was a shocker as Iona, which has a history of top finishes, but came in rated 16th, really dominated the race. I expect them to be in the top seven this week. There were some surprises on the Hoyas. When I saw that Georgetown had the #1 runner today, I immediately thought that it was Jon Green. But Jon finished 41st; he was out with the leaders in the first mile, so I don't know if this was a tempo run for him or else something happened. We will see in two weeks in Wisconsin. But #1 was Scott Carpenter. Scott had a great race.
1. Scott Carpenter 23:37 20. Christian Alvarado 24:03 26. Mike Lederhouse 24:11 27. Amos Bartelsmeyer 24:12 41. Jon Green 24:21 55. Mike Clevenger 24:28 Transfer from Notre Dame; I expect to see better placings as the year goes by as he was 38th at the NCAA last year. 70. Mike Crozier 24:36 152. Spencer Brown 25:13 One runner missing today was Darren Fahy.

Breakthrough run for Scott Carpenter--congrats tp him--otherwise so=so for the men. Very good runs for Paige Hofstad and Piper Donaghu for the women. Expectations for the women are pretty moderate this year in X/C as they really don't have an elite top runner or unrivaled depth as they've had i the recent past. It will be interesting if Paige Hofstad can develop into an elite NCAA title contender, though that is not really a this year event. piper is doing really well for a 400-800 specialist.

Jon Green has been hurt - walking around in a boot until recently. Clevenger had not raced since Feb. Also, the team has been training hard. Carpenter,Green,Clevenger, and Fahy should be our top four when the championship meets come along.

Interesting international lineup for Iona: Of their seven men, one was from the US, three from England, one from Kenya, one from Germany, and one from Canada.
