"Rutgers University announced on Tuesday it is suspending its student tailgate for the rest of the season hours after a video surfaced of Athletic Director, Pat Hobbs, chugging a beer on stage in front of a charged-up crowd prior to Saturday’s game against New Mexico." "My first concern is always for the safety and well-being of our students,'' Hobbs said. "Anyone who was at the (student tailgate) Saturday knows that I was acting to ensure that." www.nydailynews.com/sports/college/rutgers-shuts-student-tailgate-ad-pat-hobbs-chugs-beer-article-1.2800182

Rutgers is an easy whipping boy, because they have made so many erroneous moves in the past. In reality, the student tailgate was shut down not because Pat Hobbs sipped a beer, but because the space allocated was insufficient to accommodate the numbers of students who showed; it seems that RU thought they'd get less than 1,000 students, and almost 3,000 showed up. The allegation that Pat Hobbs, the new AD who has stabilized the ship, was seen accepting a beer from a student and sipping from it, is alleged by the article to be the cause of the shutdown, is false. www.nj.com/rutgersfootball/index.ssf/2016/09/why_was_rutgers_ad_pat_hobbs_caught_drinking_a_bee.html#incart_river_homewww.nj.com/rutgersfootball/index.ssf/2016/09/mike_golic_im_not_putting_pat_hobbs_beer_sip_in_wi.html#incart_river_indexI think it's more newsworthy that Rutgers actually had fans that are willing to show up for games against Howard and New Mexico.

What a different world. When I arrived at GU in the fall of 1981, Orientation was sponsored by Miller and you could not avoid free beer if you tried.
Same thing with Senior Week 1985 though we had switched to Bud.

Senior Week 1978 was sponsored by Stroh's. "Pose with a Stroh's." My, how the not-so-mighty have fallen.
