For Edited's sake - can't we get through a summer without some nugget of negativity for this program?
Also, he's a good kid and I wish him well.

The timing is a little curious (this late in the summer), but otherwise not all that surprising to me. Looked like a numbers problem, coupled with questions about Paul's health after the surgery.
Good luck, Paul. Hope you find a good "fit," and that you have great success at everything on and off the court in the future.

Very sorry that we will not get to see the best of Paul in a Hoya uniform.

It's unfortunate, because he really showed a lot of aptitude as a freshman. Of all the players to transfer out under JTIII, he's probably the one I've liked best basketball-wise.
That said, this was somewhat inevitable. We just had too many guys in the mix, so if this didn't happen now it would have happened at the end of the fall semester or in the spring. In fact we may still lose 1 or 2 guys at that time anyway.
Who knows if Paul ever fully recovers from his injury, and on the court we have enough depth to not miss him too much. If he were less than 100%, he very possibly would have been on the outside-looking-in for PT anyway.
Best of luck to him in the future.

I'm sorry to see him go without having gotten to see what kind of player he turns out to be. Hopefully (assuming no waiver), the extra year of rehab does wonders for him.

Well at least we don't have to speculate/argue about the scholarship limit any more!

Very sorry to hear this news, but not shocked. Best wishes to him moving forward. If he is healthy I believe he can be a force for most programs.

This one hurts. Totally understand his decision, probably makes the most sense given our competition at the position and his injuries but he was probably my favorite hoya on the squad. Level headed, smart player, who could've become an all time hoya great if things had worked out better. Best of luck at your next school Paul, whoever lands you will be extremely lucky and I hope they give you plenty of minutes.

This gives him another rehab year while sitting out. It stinks though. Always liked his game and his defense.

A couple of additional thoughts:
1) The iron curtain still exists. No rumor of this move beforehand, at least online.
2) Coaches may be giving very honest assessments of projected PT.
3) Kenner does matter. At the least it provides insight into health, development, and other like issues. Coaches are watching.

Sorry to see this young man go. Have always had an affinity for guys who play "old".
Am almost certain that health and speed of recovery are a big factor here.
Hope it works out for him. And from the scholarships always take care of themselves department, let's fill this one.

It's a shame because I think he could be very good for us in the future if healthy.
With this timing though it would seem like he saw the writing on the wall after Kenner. He likely wasn't going to get much time based on Kenner with him seemingly not being healthy the addition or Pryor and Derrickson's solid play.

White's transfer may also be more evidence that we really are going to shift to a real uptempo form of offense. White's passing, IQ and high skill level were a great fit for our slower princeton derived offense. But he was not as good a fit for an offense that looks to run at every opportunity. It may have become clear to White that he just was not likely to get a whole lot of playing time in this new form of offense moving forward.
Hopefully White recovers fully physically and finds a good fit for his talents at his next school. He has the talent to be a really good player in the right setting. He was so good during the summer before his senior year of HS (before getting injured) and during his senior year of high school. HIs team was on TV all the time his senior year of high school (because of teammate Jahllil Okafor) - and he was often the best player on the court. Scoring clutch baskets, running the offense, feeding Okafor for easy hoops, leading the team when Okafor was in frequent foul trouble, shutting down both big men and point guards (his work on Mudiay is something that really stuck with me) on D. He seemed like such a perfect fit for us, and played well his freshman year.
But he has had a lot of injuries, going back to high school. Even with Georgetown, he was battling some kind of fairly significant injury every summer, and lost last season to the hip/groin injury. Hopefully he can get his body to a strong place, and have a real impact moving forward. I would guess that there will be a lot of good programs interested in him - high skill level, versatile, smart kid, good kid. Maybe he ends up back in the midwest at a strong Big 10 program? Really wish him only the best, he handled his situation as a hoya really well despite his challenges.

I saw that- true- but I do not buy that was really related to this transfer. White played in Kenner and seemed to believe that he would be in a Hoya uniform next year.

The timing is concerning. It could be a lot of factors, but if White fell short academically (i.e., summer school), he has little to no good options for this fall. If GU let him go to cover the 13 scholarship limit, it speaks poorly upon the staff. This team will miss Paul White. I think he was the "glue" between the likes of Peak and Copeland and this team may be in the same trouble early in the season as a result. No coach's comment in the short press release. www.guhoyas.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/081816aaa.html

DFW- those are all possibilities, but it is likely, and appropriate, that very few, if any, of us will know even most, let along all, of the details.
I really doubt that the team dumped him to meet the scholarship limit. Unless there is something to suggest that, I respectfully find that quite an unlikely possibility.
Most fans seems to believe that health and time required for a full recovery are major issues. Until I hear otherwise, that will be my working theory, and I will not hold this transfer at all against the program or player.
