Being from the other coast, I get to be there with twenty or so friends to cheer on the Hoyas as they step by step their way to the Finals. What an unbelievable season starting in late July and winding up in San Jose as the team found there way and landed in SFO this morning. Tomorrow is media day and a big dinner, practice on the Avaya pitch and readiness for Friday.
Whatever happens, Coach Nolan and his twenty plus warriors will never forget this Cinderella-like year. He lead the parade by scheduling four top 12 teams in the pre season to gain RPI, three of which the ladies defeated. Then an intense Big East regular season, followed by the Big East tourney win and four NCAA wins advancing to the the College Cup.
In a Georgetown fashion they have accomplished this by being one of six teams that entered the 64 team tourney with exceptional APRs---five are gone. So plug in to ESPNU at 4:30 PST or better yet find your way to San Jose. Go Hoyas

Hahaha I mean, I know it's one of the local schools - and a Jesuit one, to boot - but there's just something wonderfully savage about practicing on your vanquished opponent's home turf. Came, saw, conquered, etc. Go Hoyas What a canny move that scheduling proved to be, huh? The tenor of the conversation sure is different - it's not "wow how lucky was Georgetown to have Santa Clara upset Stanford for them" but rather "wow Georgetown is the only team to beat West Virginia this year, no question they belong in this field." No one views this team as a fluke. Hopefully the performance on the pitch bears that out. I'm confident that it will. Let's take a moment here to appreciate that this team has accomplished all of this with 3 of their 4 coaches being fresh out of undergrad themselves: Lyndse Hokanson (George Mason '14), Kristen Meier (Wake Forest '13), and volunteer assistant Skylar Sabbag (Syracuse '13). Clearly, these young women have made a connection with the players that has truly resonated. They are no strangers to success in their own right as players, of course, but to have now molded and guided a team to uncharted heights speaks to leadership qualities that more than make up for a relative lack of experience. Good on you, coaches - and good on Dave for trusting them enough to put them in this position.

I am really rooting for the Hoyas to win it all. My son's alma mater Portland has won two of these, so I am hoping to make a dent in his lead. When he was looking at schools, one of the schools we visited was Santa Clara. Very nice campus. He was impressed that one of the dorms there had their own Italian chef. GO HOYAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Remove the Trojans from their high horse!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In hindsight, really needed to convert one of the handful of times we had just one player to beat early in the game. We had far more chances overall, but to be fair things were even or maybe even a bit reversed in the second.
Great season ladies!

A very solid game for the program's first final four. Just could not punch it in, and one defensive mistake (don't let her turn and shoot, fundamentals!) makes the difference.
An incredible season, be proud - and get to work for next season!

Buzzard's luck for our ladies tonight. That said, they play a beautiful brand of soccer and the foundation is solid. We need some Corboz kids...

Tough loss. Didn't really seem to have it going in the second half.
Really remarkable season. The coaches and players should be so proud of their accomplishments. I think it will all set in after they get over the disappointment from today's match.

Yep, really needed to score, especially in the first 30 minutes or so when USC was really back on their heels a lot. That's the way the ball bounces in a close one.

Absolutely magical year from late July thru December. Time to bathe in the 20 great wins, the Big East tourney title, a run of four wins in the NCAAs, the work, the fun, the friendships that will remain forever. I had the chance to talk with the grandpa of one of our players, and he recalled every detail of playing in the Rose Bowl in 1951 and the NFL title game in 1958. Just like him these young ladies will carry every memory of this year forever. Coach Nolan has woven this as part of their fabric. For the freshmen players, please note that this doesn't happen routinely or without the hard work you put in. To the seniors/grad students moving on, best of fortune in life itself. Always enjoy the successes that these memories are meant as a building block. And to all the returnees, pound the books hard, backfill this great team, and continue climbing the mountains of life. Congrats and Go Hoyas!!
