Now they have won the battle of the Virginias. What now; maybe take on the Carolinas and then the Dakotas.

It is deceiving to look at the records of the other teams in the BEAST. Some have played cupcakes to get good won/loss ratios, some have played toughies with lesser results. Right now, it looks like the strength in the same old places: Butler, Marquette, DePaul and possibly Providence and Xavier. The others NOVA, St. Johns (??), SH, and Creighton still look to be the bottom of the BEAST. Nicely we have some of the anticipated tougher games at Shaw Field and the easier ones on the road. Still, we will be working our way through the BEAST with a great big target on our backs. Coach Nolan can dream of a 16-1 and hold on to the #3 seed. Wow! Opportunity knocks, now back to one game at a time.

Hoyas find themselves in an... 'interesting' position midway through the Big East season. They have yet to allow a goal in conference play - yes, really, a conference shutout four games in. Yet they find themselves in the middle of the pack, thanks to two scoreless draws. The one at home to Providence was painful, given all of the close opportunities to score, but truthfully the result in Jamaica was something of an escape.
The Hoyas rain makeup match with 3-10 Villanova is this Wednesday; assuming the probable win there, they will vault up into third place at 3-0-2, behind now-perfect DePaul and 4-1 Marquette. Sunday's match at Marquette, then, looks to be defining: a win keeps the Hoyas close on DePaul's heels in the title hunt, while any dropped points leave the Chicagoans firmly in command of their own destiny.

And the tie with Providence hurt in another way. We must now depend on someone else beating or gaining a tie with DP to have a chance at the Big East title. Four points down, assuming even a head to head win with DP, still leaves us one down. There are a number of good teams and all sorts of scenarios could play out, but for right now all that can be done is taking care of business and hoping someone else lends a hand.
Somewhat tough, as the team is playing such good soccer, but the ball must find the net.

That's the best chance for them dropping additional points - and makes it even more imperative for the Hoyas to win this Sunday. Ho-hum 5-1 annihilation of Villanova today. Ended the conference shutout, but the more important thing is continuing to stretch those goal-scoring muscles.

Russky.......This team you really don't worry about until the tourney....One and done is tough.....What they do in the BEAST is nothing more than added medals on their resume'....There is not a question that they are the class of the Big East.....DP has Providence, Marquette, and the Johnnies left....Good chance for a miscue there. We must take care of business in Milwaukee Sunday and then pound DePaul on Shaw.......First best, but second no harm....This team is up to going far in the NCAAs.....No weakness other than mental lapses....Great coaching, great talent, the skies the limit.

I hear what you're saying, but... when you have 0 medals to your name, adding some is important! The Hoyas have never won the Big East. It is high time for that to change; the natty new digs in the Thompson Center need some trophies to fill them out. From a recruiting standpoint alone, trophies are an important indicator that winning and championships are the expectation, the standard, the baseline. It is very disappointing that there haven't been any the fill up the coffers until now, but surely, this is the year to start. To boot, soccer is a sport where tradition holds that regular seasons matter a great deal - often that's all there is! The NCAA/Big East may not have caught on to the scudetto fad quite yet, but I personally do hold regular season titles in high esteem. It is a good thing indeed, then, that the Hoyas came away with a 2-0 triumph in Milwaukee today. Amanda Carolan walked away with the brace - she may well have the deftest goal-scoring touch on the team. It is a tremendous result, one accompanied by a 1-0 DePaul loss at St. John's. The Red Storm were on the wrong side of an astounding 18-3 shot disparity (9-1 SOG), but Diana Poulin made it stand up. They are a very, very tough nut to crack at home. The Hoyas are now once again in control of their own destiny. Three matches left: at woeful Seton Hall, the home showdown with DePaul, and the season finale on the road at Creighton. Win out, and the trophy is secure, along with an undefeated regular season. At this point, that is very much the goal.

And Russky, add the fact that DePaul has Providence, G'town, and Marquette on their schedule....Either plenty of games to have a bad result, but also puts Providence and Marquette further down the food chain if they lose to DePaul. Right now, we are positioned great. Coach Nolan smartly played his toughest schedule ever in the pre season and finished 2-1-1 against top twelve teams to set the table. Playing in the Big East, which does not have the highest RPI, I do not know what else he could be asked to do. He has slowly built a dynasty at Georgetown. But you are right. Focus is important now, and the head to head with DePaul is critical, but the Creighton game in Omaha could be looked at as a trap game after a potential big win. Seton Hall looks a few years away. Watched the first half of their game with Butler yesterday and they are just undermanned. Go Hoyas.

Efficient 4-0 dismantling of the Pirates. Not dissimilar to the game at George Mason - it took awhile for the Hoyas to get going, but they dominated the run of play throughout, and eventually all the opportunities added up. That second goal was definitely an own goal on The Hall, though - and the third goal should've featured a card, probably a red one, for tackling a player on a breakaway (after the ball found its way to Chloe Knott for a goal, of course). If Rachel Corboz had played, probably would've been 6-0.
All eyes on the DePaul match now. Creighton does loom as a trap game, but their 2-0 loss at Butler has them looking at missing the Big East tournament altogether. A very winnable game... but first thing's first.

Well, going into tomorrows showdown with DePaul at 1:00 PM, it is nice to have this one at home. Hopefully, a good crowd with reasonable weather predicted. Would be nice to get some help from Butler over Marquette to insure at least second place. And like you say it would be nice with this team to secure Coach Nolan's first Big East title. His podcast describes this team as not his best athletic talent ever, but they harmonize and push each other hard to better things. Would love us to start energized, as we play so much better with the early lead like we so often get. Against the Pirates, the mojo just didn't seem there until Crystal Thomas hit the field. I love her attacking style with hustle plus. If I were to find one softness in this team is that they play chess a lot at the start of games and do not come out with head to head pressure. That may be by Nolan's design, but it sure leaves one uneasy when we let lesser opponents "stick around". In the case of Providence we let a far lesser team stick around when we could not net one of many, many chances.
So beat the Blue Deamons and bring home the bacon.

Well, DePaul whooped us up one side and down the other today. They struck early and often, and G'town did not even play their game until the second half......All kudos to the Blue Demons who came with hair on fire....All is not lost....We can secure second by going on the road beating Creighton, with a DP win over Marquette.....
Now, let us get on to life.....A soccer win, a soccer loss, but you will not believe that Asst Coach Lyndse lost her grandmother last night, and in pregame warmups Coach Dave Nolan got news that his father in Ireland passed away...For those of you who think a win or a loss is important, this brings life to the fore. Out hearts go out to both Lyndse and Coach Nolan at this horrific time.....They will probably be lost for some time, but put it all in perspective....After all it is a game.....go Hoyas......Best wishes for the Creighton game and the BEAST tourney....

Kind of a nervy 3-0 victory in Omaha to close out the regular season - Schechtman called on to make some Bill Hamid-like saves. But the Blue Jays were playing to extend their season, so to be able to absorb that and totally dominate possession was a good sign that the team has rebounded from the DePaul unpleasantness.
Marquette took down DePaul in OT, giving themselves the #1 sees. Hoyas are the #3 and will host #6 Butler on Tuesday. A win there sets up a Friday rematch at home with the Blue Demons. Here's hoping...

4-0 walkover against defending Big East tournament champs Butler. But more importantly... Any NFL teams in need of a new punter?
