Another Georgetown embarrassmentRichard M. Coleman C ’57, GL ‘61 Mr. Coleman. For once, the opening line of your post is completely accurate, but only when the comment is directed to its original poster. Are you really living in a bubble completely divorced from the reality of American in 2016? Did you bother to read the actual, original source material? You know, the white-hating, police-hating racist hit piece published in the NY Times by Michael Eric Dyson, a radical black professor of sociology at Georgetown University? Or was it enough for you to cite a column in TOWN HALL -- really? Town Hall? And written by whom? Dennis Prager, you know, the right wing extremist radio talk show host. Why not just cite Rush, or Glenn? Below are a few sample paragraphs from Dyson's piece in the NY Times. Read them and then tell us how they qualify as a white-hating, police-hating racist hit piece.Excerpts:We, black America, are a nation of nearly 40 million souls inside a nation of more than 320 million people. And I fear now that it is clearer than ever that you, white America, will always struggle to understand us.
But there’s one thing most of us agree on: We don’t want cops to be executed at a peaceful protest. We also don’t want cops to kill us without fear that they will ever face a jury, much less go to jail, even as the world watches our death on a homemade video recording. This is a difficult point to make as a racial crisis flares around us.
We close a week of violence that witnessed the tragic deaths of two black men — Alton B. Sterling and Philando Castile — at the hands of the police with a terrible attack in Dallas against police officers, whose names we’re just beginning to learn. It feels as though it has been death leading to more death, nothing anyone would ever hope for.
A nonviolent protest was hijacked by violence and so, too, was the debate about the legitimate grievances that black Americans face. The acts of the gunman in Dallas must be condemned. However, he has nothing to do with the difficult truths we must address if we are to make real racial progress, and the reckoning includes being honest about how black grievance has been ignored, dismissed or discounted.www.nytimes.com/2016/07/10/opinion/sunday/what-white-america-fails-to-see.htmlHard as it is for you to believe, racism is alive and well in the good old USA. Perhaps if you read the recent comments from Republican Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina they might possibly gain a tiny impression in your brain -- because they are from a Republican? Try it. See if anything gets through. www.npr.org/2016/07/14/485995136/watch-black-gop-senator-says-hes-been-stopped-7-times-by-police-in-a-year

Doesn't change the truth about Prof. Dyson. You realize this isn't Twitter, and you're not sending a text message. You don't have to resort to such insightful language like "smh."

If Professor Dyson is employed by our esteemed University shouldn't we support him unequivocally as we do all of our employees? Aren't these employees above criticism which seems to be the mode on the hoyatalk boards?

Posting an article from a conservative toilet paper rag that completely mis-characterizes his op-ed is also not valid criticism IMO.

Provide one example of anyone posting on here that "all GU employees are above criticism" heck provide one example of someone saying JT3 is above criticism. If you can't, you should stop beating this dead horse.

Professor Dyson is entitled to his opinion. Those who seek to squelch the opinions of others just because they disagree are small-minded.
He has a point of view on a topic that matters to him greatly. I disagree with him but welcome the fact that he expresses that opinion.

If you can't, you should stop beating this dead horse. To lie would be to say something false. My post was two questions not factual statements so tough to call them lies. As for you making the leap to JTIII, I think it's fairly evident he's above criticism for many on this board and the defensive nature of most posters on that subject makes that fairly clear. However your taking shots at a Georgetown professor is another issue that is being discussed here as I think that's worse than actually criticizing JTIII for actual performances which can clearly be measured.

I agree with you on this and respect the faculty that are currently employed by the school. I think the school is smart about having a well rounded faculty that represents all different views, races and religions.

I really doubt that you have two Georgetown degrees if you're dim enough to read and quote TownHall rather than read the original source, the New York Times.
