NBA legend Nate Thurmond has passed away at age 74 after a battle with leukemia. A seven time all star 6 ft. 11 inch center who played for Golden State and Cleveland. A class act.

One of the most overlooked of the all-time greats and the man Kareem said gave him the hardest time. That's enough for me.

I never saw Bill Russell play. With that caveat, Nate Thurmond was the best defensive center I ever saw play the game.
Playing height was 6'11"; playing weight 225 pounds. In today's game he'd be criticized as too lean and needing more time in the weight room.
Requiescat in pace, Nathaniel Thurmond.

"Nate the Great" was one heckuva baller, but he was overshadowed by his two contemporariee -- Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain. Maybe had he been surrounded by more talent and on a higher profile team he'd have been more appreciated. He was both big AND athletic. Always came to play. Not that I paid really close attention, but I don't recall any controversies about him either. He must have been around the same age as JT...probably went up against him a few times when JT was backing up Russell with the Celts. A credit to the game. RIP
