LAS VEGAS – The Washington D.C. area came up big on the final day of action in Vegas as District-based programs Team Takeover and DC Blue Devils battled in the 16U title game of the Fab 48. Top 25 rising junior Jalen "Sticks" Smith made sure things went Takeover’s way and was one of the day’s final standouts. With his team trailing 20-6 in his Team Takeover squad's semifinal game against Earl Watson Elite in the 16U division semifinals of the Fab 48, 2018's No. 25 player Jalen Smith decided enough was enough. Coming out of a timeout, the rangy power forward took the game over thanks to his sheer will to dominate on the glass. He grabbed one contested rebound after another, protected the rim and scored from between the rim and out to 12 feet. He provided his teammates energy that they could feed off of and they rode his energy wave all the way to a comeback win in the semis and eventually a tournament title after the knocked off the DC Blue Devils in the finals. Named MVP of the tournament for his efforts, Smith said he knew that his team needed a little juice. "I felt that I needed to push my team harder and told everybody to just get their nerves out," said Smith. "I told them that if we just played hard we would pick it up and have nothing to worry about. I love playing with these guys and this tournament was a great experience. "I'm like a defensive stopper and I can play some offense as well. Even though I'm thin, I'm comfortable banging with other big men and I can shoot the ball." In no hurry to make a college choice, Smith listed offers from Syracuse, Virginia, Maryland, Stanford, Miami, Villanova, Penn State, Florida and Arizona among others. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/vegas-sunday-smith-s-time-to-shine

One of Rivals' top performers from the second July live period: Recruiting: Maryland, Miami, Villanova, Syracuse, Stanford, Virginia, Florida, Penn State and Arizona among others have offered. Performance: Thanks to Smith's high-volume rebounding, shot blocking and timely offense, Team Takeover won the 16U title at the Fab 48 and Smith earned MVP honors. He's still skinny enough that his "Sticks" nickname is fitting, but he's started to fill out and become a physical presence. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/all-rivals-team-top-players-from-the-final-live-period

basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/metro-challenge-60-hubb-shines-among-crowded-talented-fieldPrograms involved: Syracuse, Miami, Kansas, Villanova, Virginia and Maryland There aren’t many big men in the 2018 class that boast better upside than Smith. Despite remaining struggles with bouts of inconsistency, the top-50 big man has tons of talent. A 6-foot-9, long bodied and skinny big man that runs the floor with ease, the four star center can knock down the pick and pop jumper but also protect the lane. When his motor is running hot, Smith is superb. His recruitment has been close to vest up until this point.

Better known as “Sticks”, Jalen Smith proved that he could be dominant on the glass. Smith led the event in rebounds, and was one of the premier interior prospects around. He isn’t a dynamic athlete, but Smith can run the floor and has a decent touch out to the mid-range. He continues to improve his motor, and once he realizes how talented he is and gains confidence his production should shoot up. Four-star Jalen Smith is a load of potential, versatility, production and talent. Standing over 6-foot-9 with even better length, the Mount St. Joseph big man has begun to tap into his tremendous upside. Playing alongside Maryland signee Darryl Morsell, Smith has been receiving recruiting interest and offers from the very best. Maryland, Syracuse, Villanova, Miami and Virginia are just a few that have begun to show a need for the Rivals150 big man. basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/east-coast-programs-beginning-to-stand-out-for-four-star-smith

Where have I heard this before. Of course, he'd start his search at the Harvard of Route 1. Second official visit: the Harvard of bayou country.

He's a Maryland lock says literally everybody. He hasn't scheduled any other officials. He and his family all grew up Maryland fans.

He's not committed to UMCP yet - glad we had him on campus this weekend. Hope the coaches have him something to think about!

One of the harder to read top-25 recruitments this summer, Jalen Smith has begun to settle into things as he enters his final summer of travel basketball. This past week, Smith visited Georgetown, a trip that intrigued the 2018 big man. “It was a good visit. I got to meet Patrick Ewing. He talked about how I would fit in and how they would develop me,” he said. “Since Patrick Ewing was a big man, they were just telling me that he can help me get stronger and once I get stronger, I can be somewhat like him.”basketballrecruiting.rivals.com/news/nba-top-100-visits-in-line-for-top-50-juniors
