Seven games to go.
At 23-24, Georgetown needs to go at least 4-3 to end a 30 year run of sub-.500 baseball that no one seems to pay attention to.
Georgetown probably needs to go 4-2 in conference games to get into the Big East tournament. Three games at Creighton (31-9) and three at home versus Villanova (15-28) will be telling, with an added game at UMBC.

Given the schedule that we play each year, it's amazing that Wilk 1) has never broken .500, 2) still hasn't been fired with that record and NCAA violations under his watch. Out of sight, out of mind, I guess.

First major league win for Hoya Tim Adleman, who labored a bit in throwing 101 pitches over 5 innings, but kept the Brewers to a single run. Long balls from Mr. Canada and BP and a strong bullpen outing over the 12 outs were sufficient to stake the former deli man to his first victory. And yes, I am a Reds fan, and am therefore tickled... light Red. m.reds.mlb.com/news/article/176600196/reds-win-behind-votto-phillips-tim-adlemanHail to the Hoya victor:

Georgetown drops game 2 at Creighton, 4-0. Umpires missed a key call on a force-out in the 8th that blew the game open for the Jays and was confirmed on the broadcast (seen statewide on local public TV stations as well as online.) Pete Wilk was ejected in the 8th for entering the field of play after the non-call and the GU catcher was tossed in the 9th for discussing it at home plate.
This one hurt. Hoyas are now 23-26 with five to play. Any more than one loss in its last five likely consigns GU to its 30th consecutive losing season.

Hoyas win the third game against Creighton 3-2. 24-26 on the year, but their 7-8 mark in conference currently has them fourth and in a conference playoff position. Their remaining games are against cellar dweller Villanova. Win 2 of 3 and they are likely (though not surely) in the conference playoffs. Seton Hall is fifth and has two fewer wins, but the Hall still has 6 games remaining (to the Hoyas 3). So the Hall can catch Georgetown regardless of what the Hoyas do. (I believe GU has the tiebreaker since it won 2 of 3 against SH, but I don't know for sure that's how it works.)
Still going to be hard to finish above .500 (unless they win 2 of 3 and DON'T make the BET, which is possible). That's because the BET is double elimination, so they would have to win a couple games against better teams.

A sport that gets less attention on this board than football or even volleyball: baseball.
Hoyas start the season 0-10, win 16 of 20 in an April stretch, finish 8-8 in conference play and gain admittance to the conference tournament by virtue of a rainout which was not rescheduled, only to be thumped 21-5 by Seton Hall in the Big East tournament.
Final record: 25-30, its 32nd consecutive season under .500.

Have always heard that former players support the sport reasonably well--especially considering the bad results. Other than the alum support one would have to question what the univ is doing with support-either build into a first rate program(which I think would be hard and costly for the sport) or allocate some of the resources elsewhere to support sports where we are better suited to being competitive.
