Uh, is this good or bad, leaving GU for Pitt for the same position?! Then again, he might wanted a raise, since JT3 is in the top 10/11 in salary. Maybe the assistants are getting peanuts

Among our current prominent targets, which ones have (had) Sutton as the lead recruiter?

Seems like he gets antsy after a couple years. He did two year stints as assistant coach at ODU, JMU, and GW before arriving at Georgetown the summer before the the 2013-14 season.

Good luck to Coach Sutton! JT3 did work hard to get his assistants raises so that he could bring in assistants of Sutton's quality. Assistants generally don't let moss grow. Let's hope JT3 finds a good replacement.

Any chance this is an opportunity for Ewing Jr to move up the ranks and take an assistant job?

I don't know how I feel about letting Ewing JR take the spot. If he's talented, sure go ahead. But sheer nepotism is the reason why our team is struggling. I'd much rather have the best possible option we can as an assistant coach, in particular either a good x's and o's guy or someone who can recruit. If that happens to be PEJR then that's not a problem, but I'm just doubtful it is at this point in his career.

Would love to see III get a former pg who has some NBA experience who knows defensive concepts for guard play. He will need someone with this experience and knowledge to make the transition he is about to make. I don't think it necessarily has to be a former Hoya or with prior coaching experience, just someone who has played the position in college and pros and has the aptitude to pass on that knowledge to today's young players.

Let's also keep in mind that whoever is hired to replace Sutton could very well be developing recruiting contacts in the classes of 2017 and 2018, and such a person could open doors to some new recruits in the way that Hardy and Sutton did when they returned. I would love to have Robert Kirby back now that Pastner has moved on from Memphis, but I am not sure that's realistic.

I really liked Coach Sutton....super nice guy and a gentleman. I really do wish him all the best and hope this is a good move for he and his family. Good man.
At the same time, this is a good opportunity for the staff to bring on another strong recruiter.

Agreed B&G they need someone who can evaluate and close. Critical that they find the right guy who can provide immediate results.

It is unfortunate that Brandin Knight is joining Rutgers, he would have fit this profile very well.

I know everyone is looking for a strong recruiter, but where do the remaining assistants stand in terms of being strong "Xs and Os" coaches? If Broadus and Hardy are stronger at recruiting, I'd rather have a good coach coach fill the last spot. Obviously someone that is great at both aspects would be perfect, but that's not always possible.

First, wish Coach Sutton all the best at his next stop. As far as I know he is a class act and made good contributions while at GU.
That said, the team had a really disappointing year. Change is definitely needed (again, not suggesting Sutton had to be the change). The team was either not coached well, or did not respond to the coaching staff. Either way, coaching has to be more effective next year. Bringing in some fresh ideas and energy could be a boon to the program.
Of course, that means finding the right guy. A former, respected PG would be a great place to start - IF, JT3 is ready to listen to his ideas. And Defense needs to be emphasized. If the players are not executing well, not being smart about how they play, committing far too many turnovers and fouls.... ultimately, that is on the coaching staff. Even if the coaches were presenting good techniques and game plans that the kids just weren't executing, it's still on the staff. They have to find a more effective way to communicate.
I don't know what went on in practice, the locker room, off the court, off season, or whatever else may have been influencing the team. It was clear, however, that our guys had some serious issues and show repeated weakness on D, on the boards, fouling, not getting to the line, turnovers. The team had much more talent than their 15-18 performance would indicate. 3's teams have usually looked good, played up to their abilities. But not this year. I wish Coach Sutton all the best, and I hope GU brings in an outstanding asst who can help get things turned around next season.

JT3, Broadus and Hardy are all excellent recruiters. Coach Sutton is a good guy and wish him well. But this is a great opportunity for the staff to bring in somebody that can help with scouting and in-game adjustments...Robert Burke/Mike Brennan type.

No this is the 3rd assistant so its perfect for letting someone grow. If Pat wants it he should get it, Let him get his feet wet. 3rd assistant usually does more individual skill work with players than x's and o's in game
