My guess is we couldn't stand the heat and decided to bounce. Cuse, Uconn & B1G challenge were enough along with a early tourney. I don't like it, but it probably makes sense. I also was planning on going to KU this year.

The HOYAS add nothing to the Kansas program.

Is there already a thread on the 2016-17 schedule? I couldn't find it, but seems like we need one.

To that point, here's what I recall about our remaining OOC:
?? vs Maryland ?? Maui Invitational Opening Round Game (vs ?? at Verizon) Nov. 21-23 Maui Invitational (field includes UConn, UNC, OSU, Oregon, Tenn, Wisc, and Chaminade) Jan. 21 vs UConn ?? at Syracuse
Am I missing anything?

Terrible move - need games like this to stay relevant.
Sadly, post on KU Hoops Reddit forum about this news says it all:
"Eh. Sad to see it go but Georgetown got so bad so fast."
Truth hurts.

The HOYAS add nothing to the Kansas program. Why do you even follow the program or post on this board? I don't think you've ever had a positive thing to say.

It's because they know we'll be meeting up when we play each other in the late rounds of the NCAA tournament

No problem. I hear St. Leo is willing to step up and fill the opening in the schedule.

I think this is a mistake. The tougher scheduling was one of the traits of JT III that I enjoyed. Besides despite all of the negative from the past year, it seemed to me that the Hoyas played very well or at least close against every quality non-conference opponent. Perhaps I missed one, but the Hoyas competed with Duke, Wisconsin, Syracuse, Maryland and UConn.

We have an incredibly difficult schedule next year, so any notion that we no longer have a tough schedule is simply not true. The three Maui games, Maryland, Syracuse, and Uconn. That only leaves five OOC games. So -- without Kansas -- our schedule is similarly difficult as it was this past year.
And for exposure? I presume all the Maui games and the Cuse game will be on ESPN. The Maryland and UConn games both will be prominent, even if not on ESPN.
No one -- and I mean no one -- will remember that we dropped or cancelled this game.

The reason to be disappointed is not for impact on SOS or perception of weakness - the impact is minimal in either case - but for the loss of a very good home game for season ticket holders and for ticket sales. It's great that Maryland and UCon will be home games next year, but having this ongoing series would mean you then get Cuse and Kansas in 2017-18. With the Nike tournament already set for that season, doubtful they will be adding another strong home opponent.

Are there any statistics re #'s of season ticket holders--it would be interesting to see the trendline.

Also, we always start on the road in these types of games because of Verizon, so that makes it even less likely we'll have another good home game. If you're looking for a reason to oppose Big East expansion, a good one is that the Hoyas really can't afford to lose the home game against Villanova.

Are there any statistics re #'s of season ticket holders--it would be interesting to see the trendline. The Hoyas' season ticket base has steadily increased during Coach John Thompson III's tenure, from 2,300 during 2004-05 to 10,000 this season... Georgetown's students have been especially enthusiastic. They purchased a record 3,400 season ticket packages -- an impressive total for a school with an undergraduate enrollment of 6,853. -- WaPoThat was when the student section spilled up into the 400s. I would be curious where we are now, especially among students, with next year's rising seniors having seen one tournament trip and a .500 Big East team since they stepped on campus.
