Difficult to expect many Senior Guards to come in and make a sizeable impact we need. That being said Jagan Mosely will be better than this thread is giving him credit for... He's a guard out of HS and he's 2016

I like that the staff is attempting to address what was a major weakness of this past year's team - penetrating guard play and strong defensive guard play. If the kid meets the other criteria the staff has for their players I'm for it. The staff is also showing they mean it when the desire to change the speed of the offense has been rumored. If he turns out not to be the next Steve Francis you've also not committed 4 years to him.

This is a huge get -- congrats to Jagan and welcome to the family. I have never seen this kid play, but I'm going to go ahead and say that next years back court has the potential to be better than this years. Tre, Jagan, LJ and Kaleb -- let's play some defense and push the pace. I love DSR (and he brought a lot to the squad - obviously), but those were his two weaknesses. I think this team will play best if we play fast and we play intense.

I think the creation of so many basketball-factory prep schools in the last 10-15 years has really reduced the need for talented players to attend JUCO's, so you probably won't find a Steve Francis/Larry Johnson/Shawn Marion superstar player at a JUCO like you did prior to 2000. If a highly-rated high school underclassman shows any sign of difficulty qualifying for college, his handlers will put him in 1 or more basketball-factory prep schools to ensure that he's able to enter a 4-year college as a freshman at some point. JUCO seems to be the absolute last resort for players these days. But I don't think it's a knock on the staff for going after a JUCO player like Jonathan Mulmore because he ended up being pursued by other BCS schools after Georgetown offered. I'd credit the staff for being one of the first(or maybe the first) BCS school to show an interest and then offer him. not sure I agree with this. I've seen tons of JUCO kids in the last five years have dramatic impact at D-1 schools, top 25 schools. Good JUCO players are very common

What are you disagreeing with? He was just hoping for the best. Are you so miserable that you won't let him have that? Everyone hopes for the best, but JC recruiting remains a sign that this staff did not do its job in the high school ranks. i can't agree with this fully. there are many factors that play into this. For every Trez Kilpatrick, there's the Jimmy Butlers and Jae Crowders.

Welcome to Jon! This was a solid signing and a good April get for the Hoyas. Filled a major need with a kid that has the length and athletic ability we desperately need on the perimeter. If you are asking me do I want a still uncommitted 3 star high school recruit or a more physically/mentally mature standout JUCO kid for 2 years, I would select the latter.
It is up to III and staff to coach up Jon and make him a defensive force to go along with his obvious offensive skills. Paired with Jagan, we could have a solid perimeter defense again.

Welcome Jonathan. Good choice.
No downside on this signing.

Why anyone would look at the addition of a potentially talented player at a position of need as anything but a positive -- particularly when the risk is low (two years of eligibility) -- is beyond me. Even if it just turns out to be depth -- that's something we need also. We've missed on guards, for sure. But I don't think it's fair to say that the staff has failed in recruiting the HS ranks altogether. DSR was a terrific player for us out of HS. LJ -- who really is a guard at this point -- also appears to be. That's two very good guards in three years. We've gotten killed on perimeter defense and for sure the staff has been short a guard or two -- I'm not sugarcoating it -- but this is exactly what you want to do in that situation. It also creates much better balance positionally for us going forward. I'd still love us to get a quick traditional guard, but if we're not going to (or if that is a year away), then this is the next best thing. Isn't this better than getting a low-rated high school guard that's going to tie up a scholarship for four years? Much better chance that this young man can come in and help right away than my hypothetical low rated frosh. And we may only have one more year of LJ. This is low risk - high ceiling. It's perfect given the circumstances. I agree. Given the circumstances this signing is ideal. I and others are not stating that. Would JT have gone to the JUCO ranks if he didn't miss out on multiple guards and if Tre met expectations? Would JT have gone to the JUCO ranks if he didn't promulgate his lack of need for a true point guard in his offense? This is the main reason why we recruited Mulmore a JUCO player instead of adding another freshman guard. Mulmore's addition will actually help Tre as it allows him to play off the ball and focus as a catch and shoot player much like he did during his promising freshman year when DSR and Jabril did a majority of the ball handling that year. Mulmore's commitment also allows for Jagan to continue develop and not just thrown in the fire in a move of desperation. I think Jagan is going to be a real player for us but you can screw a prospects head up if you put too much on their plate and they aren't ready for it all. For an example of this, see Tre Campbell's sophomore season.

What a great welcome to welcome a new Hoya, guys.
Thanks also for reminding me why, while I did not stop watching the team, I stopped coming here this season. This place has become a cesspool, because most of you are miserable. KC is now the reasonable optimist on the board: think about that.

Welcome, Jon! It'll be great to have his experience and maturity on the team next year. Love his quotes, from wanting to play defense to his matter of fact attitude. Sounds like a person who just gets it done, and that'll be welcome. I'll be cheering for him and rest of the Hoyas next year.

So nice that it takes about 4 seconds for this place to start slamming our newest Hoya. But the majority of us are still holding out hope, and prefer not to give up on next season in April.

A guy we have been recruiting, at a guard position where we have need, commits to be a Hoya. Immediately the posts start questioning his abilities and the staff's recruiting. And WE'RE the ones who have to lighten up? Got it.

Personally, I've always liked the idea of recruiting JuCo guys that have had success. They have more of a track record and have less of an adjustment to make in terms of college life.
Welcome Jonathan! I've really liked the things that I've read in terms of his mindset and his aspirations for next year. I hope he's happy at his new Hilltop home and that he's ready to show what he can do. I hope he makes some of us here eat our criticisms by this time next year.

Especially makes sense for guys like this one, who had a foot injury in HS that set his game/recruiting back some. You get to see how they recuperated from the injury and if they have kept progressing.

One poster was critical of the staff(DFW), he didn't say anything disparaging about Mulmore.. You're a long time poster, you know that not everyone sees everything the same.. Why get upset about it?
