Just wondering the sentiment if Villanova can run through next two games and win a National Championship. As a rival I feel tough to take and would be very jealous but as Big East fan would feel good for the conference versus UNC or Syracuse. Oklahoma wouldn't bother me as I don't know many OU basketball fans that would annoy me.
If they do win this then they are become the more storied program versus us which I think, rightfully so, we've always viewed ourselves as.
I'm bothered by this but know that we could all benefit from BE getting the exposure.

Overall, I think it would be great for the conference, so it doesn't really bother me. Other than Syracuse (and Duke), no other non public school has won since 1985. So that in itself would be a huge accomplishment and a huge factor in improving the conference image. The odds are still very much against Villanova winning but I hope they do (and if Syracuse is the opponent it's especially important).
I totally get the 1985 argument against Villanova, and it sucks we lost to them in 1985, but I was 4 years old then, so it doesn't bother me as much as it does for others who were not toddlers then. And I totally get and understand that and wouldn't blame them at all. If I was around back then I would likely feel the same way.
Would another championship raise their profile? For sure, but our championship (and theirs) were 30+ years ago. I don't think we should be maintaining our status simply because others in the conference fail to eclipse us. It just means we need to step up ourselves.
Of course I would rather that we were in Villanova's position.

I am almost as aghast and appalled by what I am reading here as I am by the thought that I may have to root for Nova on Monday.
The only thing worse than nova winning the title would be cuse winning and I will root for nova should it come to that.
It wont matter much, however, since if they play each other in the final it will be a catastrophe of biblical proportions and clearly a harbinger of an all too soon apocalypse so the result will be but a footnote.

This entire conversation sickens me. We are so weak and compromised a program that we have to debate whether to root for a hated enemy that stole our dynasty with a Coke-fueled fluke. Really?
What the hell is wrong with you people? Villanova should rot in hell along with Cuse and every other enemy. I hope Oklahoma beats them by 60 and makes Punkidiacono cry while they are at it.
If our program takes care of its business we don't have to root for anyone else, period.
If we can't, watching those around us do well is still absolutely abhorrent.
If you are too young to remember 1985, go talk to someone who isn't. It is a pain and a bitterness that will never, and should never, go away.
Have a nice day.

Jimmy Butler would be down with that sentiment.

My opinion...the longer Nova is in the spotlight this year the better their chances are with landing Lykes.

A few years back I bought the DVD's for the 3 Final Fours from the 80's. The Nova game is still wrapped in plastic, just far too painful to watch. Have to rout for OU.

After dinner last night I became involved in a family text message between among others my younger brother a Nova grad and a sophmore in 1985 a Sister a BC grad and others planning a small Bday party for our 87 year old mother. It quickly evolved into a series of insults regarding the Thompsons, Georgetown,Jay Wright, Rollie and Mclean. All friendly Then i'm sent picture of my next door neighbor from childhood who I only see at wakes and funerals decked out in a Party Like Its 1985 T shirt.
At this point i'm getting violently ill, when i get a separate text from a nephew on the other side of the family a Nova grad and son of a late Hoya golf captain and Hoya mother, whose claim to Hoya fame was when he was about 5 months old was tossed around By Eugene Smith in a Congo line while celebrating our regional final win and advancement to Lexington in 1985. He starts regaling me about his trip to Houston and a party with Rollie and Kittles and the insults continue on both text message lines, and the best i could come back with was to say hello to Dwayne Mclean while in the bathroom.
At least he had the good sense to leave his longtime girlfriend a graduate of the northern community college of upstate NY back in the city under the pretext that Canadiens had been temporarily banned from Texas. Perhaps the worst Dig was one that I had heard before, as the conversation thankfully petered out, was Georgetown= Faifield. Which ended it for me.
Now despite my better judgement i had planned to cheer for Kansas last week anticipating what would follow but ultimately found myself pulling hard for Nova. This will never happen again. To me they now represent an accumulation of what previously had been represented by the evil of Syracuse and Maryland.
It even brings me closer to eagle54s viewpoint regarding JTIII even though I violently disagree with the entirety of his reasoning. All I can say is that the current state of the program cannot continue.
Thank you all for putting up with my personal catharsis as I attempt to somehow reconcile Georgetown=Fairfield

Go Big East...although if OU win it all I win my office pool, which would be nice. I won my office pool once. Picked Southern over GA Tech, and a few other upsets. The day I picked up my nice fat check, one of my two central air units died. So much for that check...
