I'm so confused. If Jabril wasn't good, Hopkins and Bowen were terrible and Smith was a liability, why are we considerably worse without them this year?

that was the year he broke his jaw too. Be fair in context. It was, but we also lost several games (including the DePaul game at the BET) where he was playing full strength. The point is that it's not "toughness" that's missing this year; we just aren't good. I dont disagree with your overall point just that your evidence isnt as iron clad as you think. A broken jaw for a basketball player is not a minor injury. Who knows what that team would have done. We were 1-5 i believe in the games he missed and Jabril even said he lost a lot of weight.

Because the coaches stink, the offense won't possibly succeed, all freshmen and sophomores that aren't ready to lead a team are terrible, our senior (non)PG was a disappointment, blah blah blah. Clearly you haven't been listening to all the experts proclaiming that the program is broken beyond repair and needs to be blown up and rebuilt.

Because some people think basketball is like fantasy sports and you get the 5 highest rated players and they automatically win. Its not as simple as that always. I think this year with all the injuries and people trying to figure out their roles hurt us

Some times teams outperform the sum of their parts and sometimes, like this years' Hoya team, they under perform. There are probably a lot of reasons why, but this team had more individual talent that should have translated into a better season. Were they going to win the BE with the other talented teams in the conference and the injuries they incurred, probably not, but they also should not being going into the BET tonight with no chance of making the NCAA tournament.
There is no way to really know from outside the program, but I am hopeful that the people on the inside of the program know what went wrong and have a plan in place to fix it for next year.

Defense is the issue. Last year we had Hopkins and Trawick there to clean up defensive lapses. Without those two, we are exposed.
I like the looks of this walker kid...looks like Bowen 2.0 with much better form on his shot and a better handle.

Smith was also a lot better than he's given credit for. He wasn't mobile but he was more skilled than Hayes and Govan.

That team that lost to DePaul did not lack toughness, this one did. Two different teams, two different situations.

That's true in part. Not sure players like Trawick and Whittington could be our best 2 players for us to be a team that goes deep in the tourney, but they absolutely could be 3-5 best on our team. They are both NBDL players and decent ones at that. Not many teams outside the top 15 can say that. Trawick is a dime a dozen. There are 300 players in every class who can play that role. you're ridiculous! We were a tourney team with trawick and missed the nit without him. He was our glue guy last year and had no one who could fill that role this year.

You think putting Trawick on this team would make it a tournament team? Zero chance.

You think putting Trawick on this team would make it a tournament team? Zero chance. Adding a very talented perimeter defender like Trawick would do this team wonders. Most under-respected aspect of his game. Offensively he may have been limited, but defensively he tore opposing offenses apart.

Most under-respected aspect of his game. Offensively he may have been limited, but defensively he tore opposing offenses apart. Defense is as much about attitude and willingness to work as it is about physical ability. Sure it helps to have great lateral quickness and length but there are plenty of good defenders, especially at the college level, that don't have great lateral quickness or length. Trawick had that attitude and willingness and it helped set a tone for the rest of the team the last few years. One of the biggest issues I saw all year with the defense was that players were not willing to make multiple efforts on defense. They would make a solid play on the initial attack or even a solid rotation to an open player, but they did not seem willing to make that next effort to get to the next rotation or to recover onto an open player. Too many times they would make one solid defensive play on a defensive stance and then stand up and think they were done for that possession as the opponent make the extra pass and found a player wide open as the Hoyas watched them make open shots. Good defensive teams play hard through the entire shot clock.

The really crazy thing about this team is that from time to time they would show that defensive intensity. The first half of the Nova game for example. If we could have kept that up all game we might have pulled the upset. Obviously fatigue was a factor but in so many games our defense had spurts where it looked good but then would seem to just quit.

You think putting Trawick on this team would make it a tournament team? Zero chance. YES!!!!!!!!!!Easily..........Let's think about it from a game to game scenario.......MD, Duke, SH(2), Provy(2), Quette(1), Nova(3), Rad(1), Mon(1), UNCA(1), UCONN(1), X(1), But(2) Of the above loses maybe 3 were out of hand Mon, X, Nova(2). So you are talking about maybe 3 offensive and 3 defensive possessions a game. You really don't think Brilly is the difference in at least 10 games? Just think about how many games we had a bad defensive assignment at the end or we took bad shoots 3-4 possession in a row at the end of games. It not so much his talent as it is his presence that was missed. I really believe that Brilly is one of those cats that you don't want to answer to after doing something stupid. And we had countless games in which DSR, Jessie, Kaleb, LJ, and Ike did stupid things at the end that Brilly wouldn't have stood for. Did anyone say anything to Jessie after Wideman punked him 3 possessions in a row? I know for certain that that doesn't happen if Brilly is on our team. God I hope that Jagan has some of that in him. Alpha is what is missing......IMO

Trawick shot 50% from the field and 40% from 3 last year. He averaged 9 points and 2.5 assist a game plus he straps up. Considering the fact we would be replacing a lot of Tre's minutes with Bril and we lost 9 games by 2 possessions or less doesn't seem like a stretch that adding Trawick would make us a tourney team imo...
