Tough start to the season, with a 10-6 home loss to Delaware and an 18-8 road drubbing at the hands of the #1 Terps. There's some discussion - an unprecedented amount, really - on LaxPower about what has gone wrong with the program over the past couple of seasons. There's a fair amount of criticism of Ricky Fried's coaching style, that he's too screamy or rigid (even a comparison to *shudder* Boeheim). Other comments mostly imply that Georgetown doesn't care about supporting its athletics programs and being nationally competitive, which...

Despite the agreed increased competitiveness, given geography and demographics match between the univ and the sport one would think we should be a perennial top 10 program-I wouldn't be concerned if we just had a random bad yr, but we seem to be locked in a secular downtrend even with pretty strong recruiting classes. I read the lax power board you cited and I guess it was most noteworthy for the amt of attention devoted to this topic. Hard to draw any conclusions, though i guess its a mix of coaching, maybe team culture, recruiting misses, maybe bad luck. --which all except the last one to some degree reflect on coaching-hopefully they will turn it around this yr even though initial results are not promising--i could speculate that the coach feels relatively immune from direct criticism re results because he is the USA natl team coach, but I really don't know

Watched the Princeton - Gtwn game online today (while watching the basketball as well) Gtwn /Prin were pretty even--We lost because of mental lapses on defense in first half--letting goal in with 5 sec to go and a cheap call allowing a free shot by prin with 7 sec to go to end the game--gtwn was better second half while prin was better in first. i would say Princeton's two best players were better than anyone we had though gown's best player are freshman + sophs--I can actually see us getting much better with young talent, though I would say our stele of play is not very aggressive--team coach gets credit for staying in game despite being way down on road + making adj.'s -offense seems a bit slow however. Seems like we'd have trouble versus a team of good athletes aggressive attack. Mixed bag I think

Another close loss as the team starts 0-4 and heads to an away game vs Duke-Team is competitive but can't closeout close games vs decent opponents-pretty recurring theme over the years-defintely think univ should evaluate the staff at yr end--nice win for men today

They got one. Hoyas pick up a 10-9 road win over #14/15 Duke. Maybe it'll provide a much needed boost of confidence to get over the hump.

The team is as talented as all but the top few 3-5 teams, they really should be a top 10-15 team at least and go a round or two in the NCAA tournament--hopefully they can use the momentum to beat Penn on Saturday--I think that will be the key match of the season as Penn is also a top 15 team. The Duke win was the flip side of the Princeton loss as the team came out on fire and held on at the end.

Very disappointing outing at home-ther's no way the team should lose like that to Penn at home--probably now in a situation that they have to win the BE to make NCAA's which is pretty unlikely. Doesn't seem that the team is focused --don't know whether its team culture, coach or both.

Doesn't seem that the team is focused --don't know whether its team culture, coach or both. They looked awful, man. I left at halftime, and I never do that. I don't know enough about women's lax Xs & Os to opine wih too much credibility, but it did look like the spacing was all messed up. Penn breakouts looked like a blitzkrieg, GU breakouts looked like the whole team just sprints down the field with zero situational awareness, leaving two girls with the ball, who get challenged while still in their own end. On offense, Penn created wide spaces and shooting lanes. There were lots of instances where it was 1v1, so a successful move would've left the attacked clear on goal. That almost never happened for Georgetown - beat on defender, and there's another one or two right there. Some very highly ranked freshmen starting; hopefully it's a foundation for the future, because the present ain't looking too hot.

Another bad loss -seems like men and women are done except for winning the BE, which seems pretty unlikely. I thought that both squads would show improvement with talented underclassmen, but things seem to be going nowhere.

Women blown out by Temple to end the regular season--would think admin tells men's + women's coaches to turn things around or else for next yr--both programs are clearly down + out.
women still get elite recruits, though the coach does nothing with them-I don't think it will be hard to turn around if they get new leadership. men no longer get top recruits, still think they could if things go in a different direction

While Georegetown slept, lacrosse went from being a national program to a forgotten entity. Ricky Fried's four year record for the women is 37-35, with declining win totals in each of the past four years. There are no more Stanwicks coming through that pipeline. Kevin Warne's four year record for the men is 22-37, with 2016 as the worst finish for any men's lax team at GU since 1977. In the end, it comes down to talent and the top talent isn't looking this way. The relative weakness of the Big East doesn't help either.
