Each year I'm amazed at the dwindling interest and activity there is on this board. The school announced signing day and nothing today. We had a a huge cash infusion very recently and very little chatter.
Let me know where everyone is now posting as it doesn't seem to be here.

That's an ongoing problem and one not helped by Georgetown's increasing reliance on promoting men's basketball as the only sport to the general population.
As to the list, I don't know all the specifics on these recruits but it appears to be a step below recent efforts; hut then again, a full ride beats need and a work-study buyout 10 times out of 10. The good story is that with a recruiting class of 18 and a graduating senior class of 16, there is almost no attrition or transfers in the pipeline.
Three more QB's now makes six heading into 2016, but that's a function of how the PL's Academic Index punishes Georgetown.

That's an ongoing problem and one not helped by Georgetown's increasing reliance on promoting men's basketball as the only sport to the general population. There is not enough marketing money in the world - or at least in the Georgetown athletics budget - to make the general population care one whit about Georgetown football as it is currently positioned. Having said that, I know they do a fair amount of targeted outreach/promotions to groups, as they also do with the other sports on the next tier down from MBB (WBB, football, soccer, lacrosse). In fairness, they did create a Signing Day 2016 web portal ( www.guhoyas.com/signingday/gu-signing-day-16.html) with regular updated content. That's way above par for Georgetown, where the campus construction map hasn't been updated since October and the live camera feed of the Thompson Athletic Center hasn't worked since I don't know when. I don't add anything to the chatter but I like to check it every day to hear what the rest of you are thinking and saying.....would love to see more of you "yung-uns " contribute and keep me updated....would like to see the list of the recruits....thanks ! We're thinking that the whole issue of football scholarships will become moot once President Bernie makes college free for everyone! Anyway, the list of signees is at that portal I linked above.

I think they have done a tremendous job promoting men's soccer (and women's soccer to some degree).

Why are we announcing recruits this year when there's no difference in the admissions process from years past on our side? I know other schools may announce kids signing LOIs now that the other PL schools offer them, but haven't we always waited until May?

I know other schools may announce kids signing LOIs now that the other PL schools offer them, but haven't we always waited until May? There was a sense that Kevin Kelly did not announce classes in February because his prospects were at risk being picked off by other programs before the deposit date in May, knowing full well that GU's offers were non-binding. I'm aware of at least three such instances, probably more. Today's recruits like the showbiz appeal of signing day and want to "sign" with Georgetown. If the commitments hold, there's nothing wrong with an early, if unofficial, announcement.

Players signing NLI's to non-scholarship programs is beyond stupid anyway, since the NLI binds the player to the school but not the school to the player.

Schools are not allowed to provide an NLI unless a scholarship is offered. What a Georgetown recruit is "signing" is probably an acknowledgment of intent from the "likely letter".

Back in the day, even Glacken required a signature of commitment from all of the locked in recruits b/c he had a limited number of slots (20-25 per year) that were reserved through admissions for FB to allow entry at a much much lesser academic standard than the rest of the average student body. If he earmarked you for one of these admission slots, he wanted a commitment from you in writing that you would be attending.

Not sure there could have been anything binding back in a Glacken era that was all club/DIII that would have bound a student to anything? Maybe some sort of promise between a player and the coach that wouldn't have held up to anything.

No more binding than what they sign today, just saying that it's been a practice for 20+ years as far as I know!

It looks to me like Coach Sgarlata has put together two good recruiting classes. There appears a battle at the QB spot with a senior and several young guys this spring. We have some good receivers in Buckman, Hill, and Fr. Williams returning. OL will have some experience returning but need to solidify the RB position. On Defense, the Hoyas lose a good CB in Scott but had some young guys that got playing experience. LB Loughrey had a good year and seems tough in the middle. Yankovich stepped in at OLB and make some big plays. We do need to improve the pass rush, hopefully some guys will step up this spring. Both kickers return. I think a good, realistic goal would be 6 wins next year. One more good recruiting class and they can compete in the top half of the PL. Go Hoyas!

Has anyone heard if Georgetown has scheduled a first game opponent? I assume it's not St. Francis again. Also, I haven't seen the date of the Hoyas Spring Game. Does it depend on the weather?

I just saw the schedule today for spring football. The spring game is on Friday, April 22nd at 6 pm. The Hoyas will be practicing in pads on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday is for team workouts. There should be some good competition for some key positions. Excited to see what the Hoyas can put together for next year. I think a good season would be 6 wins. A tough Ivy schedule, Colgate with many returners, Edmonds running the ball at Fordham, and I think Holy Cross' QB behind center will make this a challenge.GU has some holes to fill on offense. I think Coach Sgarlata has Georgetown pointed in the right direction. Go Hoyas!
