To update the Big East stats with last night's results:
Marquette (away): Us: 7-11 FT; Them: 14-17 (+6 FTs for Marquette) Xavier (home): Us: 14-23; Them: 29-38 (+15 FTs for Xavier) Providence (away): Us: 8-16; Them: 22-30 (+14 FTs for Providence) Butler (home): Us: 15-22; Them: 25-29 (+7 FTs for Butler) St. John's (home): Us: 27-33; Them: 18-27 (+6 FTs for Georgetown) Providence (home): Us: 15-21; Them: 13-20 (+1 FT for Georgetown) Xavier (away): Us: 8-20; Them: 36-49 (+29 FTs for Xavier) Creighton (home): Us: 6-16; Them: 10-18 (+2 FT for Creighton)
It should come as no surprise that last night, when we fouled a lot less, and the free throw disparity was close, we did a lot better. It's a little troubling to see that we only shot 37.5% on free throws, though I think that's probably just a weird outlier, since we've overall shot pretty well.
For what it's worth, in the post-game press conference, JT3 specifically mentioned the 49 FT's against Xavier and raised it as an issue. Hopefully we can keep up not fouling.

I enjoyed watching the limited fouling last night. A big reasoning was the absence of a PG to effectively run the Pick and Roll. We have been so bad at defending that this year and has contributed to many of our foul issues as well as defensive issues overall. I noticed we attempted to trap a lot of the PNR last night. I wonder if that is the plan moving forward or an adjustment because of their PG issues. If the PNR defense can be just slightly below average, it would be a big help moving forward.

In the post-game comments, JT3 said they likely would not have defended that way had Watson been in the game.

Nice adjustment by 3, hopefully it continues to be an emphasis in practice

I don't mean this to sound nasty but the first time a Butler guard tries the pick and roll or just blows by our defender and goes to the basket instead of just a typical swat at the ball foul let's have one or two guys just level the guy. Maybe expecting more physical contact would change the trajectory of shots and actually cause a few misses. The way we foul anyway I'd rather those fouls send a message. Again, not trying to be vicious.

I agree totally not to be vicious but don't let pick and rolls result in easy layups and if there is a foul it should be given early and effectively so it is not for the and one!

The only concern - our bigs foul enough when they are NOT trying to foul. If they start giving fouls to send a message, we will have Reggie as our center by mid-second half!

I was actually presuming that Trey, given his foul rate, would go through his 5 as well.
