This will be a tough one. Creighton exposes our major weakness and I worry we will go back to our uninspired play after two double digit wins.

Creighton played hard tonight, although the talent level was not up to Villanova's level. If the Hoyas go into Omaha thinking they can just show up, they'll be in for a rude awakening. The Bluejays are tough at home, and I'd be surprised if this doesn't go down as a one-to-two point game entering the final minute.

Hoyas may win, Hoyas may lose but I don't think they will underestimate Creighton.

I honestly hope this game goes into a shoot-out; could be much like the game vs Missouri in 2010. It'll show that these players are capable of playing 40 min of uptempo ball. I do hope our defense comes to play because it is more likely we have a scoring drought like most CBB teams do.

We simply on average play better offensively doing that. And it's much easier to watch than seeing Hayes above the elbow with the ball with 5 seconds on the shot clock.

I think the key vs. Creighton is defending their 3 point shooters in transition. The natural defensive instinct is to protect the lane/rim in transition. But teams like Creighton look for 3s as their first option in transition, and often get a lot of wide open 3 point looks this way. They look to run off both makes and misses, their PG is quick and smart, always pushing the ball upcourt while the wing players sprint to the 3 point line. If we deny them transition plays, and don't get sloppy in our half court D to give them open 3s - we should be in good shape
My favorite stat in the Marquette game is that we only let them shoot 10 3's. they are not a good 3 point shooting team, but the way the game is played currently, you have to deny open 3s if you want to win consistently. marquette hit half their 3s - but by only allowing them to shoot 10, we really helped our defensive effort.

Creighton has a couple of ingredients that have given the Hoyas fits. A quick, penetrating point guard that is very good at finding his teammates for buckets; and a number of quality 3 point shooters that can score from the perimeter. Add an away game in the BE to the equation and this will be a difficult matchup for the Hoyas.

Creighton is good offensively, not so much defensively. Villanova beat them without getting a single offensive rebound. I'm not sure I've ever noted that before. Zero offensive rebounds, and comfortably won the game. Of course, they did light Creighton up from 2, shooting 28-32. I hope we can exploit their defense as well.

We're likely to be road dogs here, but this is a game we really could use a win. The top of the conference is very, very good, and thanks to our struggles, we need a strong conference record to make the NCAAs. Pomeroy has us at 9-9 in conference right now based on our prior performance -- we've got to play 3 games above that, I think. This can be one of those games.

Everyone agree that if we play 40 minutes like we played first 25 yesterday we can win all four home games against BE top four?

Pomeroy only gives us a 35% chance to win this one. This is definitely one of the games we need to win if we want to make it to the tournament. It's not an easy game, but it'll be easier than beating Villanova, Butler, Xavier, or Providence.

Play tough. Play smart. Limit bad turnovers. Must be ready to go on the road. Must make some of the open shots that will be there. Must defend for the entire shot clock.
I would like to see DSR embrace the point guard role again. If he runs the shows like he did yesterday, the Hoyas have a great shot.

I know this sounds crazy but I just realized that this may be the first time in Hoya history where we could have 4 future NBA first rounders on the court at one time. Peak, Derrickson, Copeland, Govan. Maybe not lottery picks but definitely first rounders. Maybe make it a starting five with DSR?

Change the year, and this exact same post would have been made, just with different players named. Sometimes those players meet the high (usually delusional) expectations, but usually they don't. You could have even said that about the 2009 team at the time (Summers/Wright/Freeman/Monroe/Sims), and that team didn't even make the tournament. That's why I love this board, only insane delusion or pessimism allowed.

I put my thinking cap on while I was reading some of these post and IMO Creighton maybe a bit over rated. They only have one quality win and that was Nebraska, all of there other wins have been against small conference teams and mid-majors. Yes, the same mid-majors that have been giving us the fists with there small ball play. My point is they've racked up some losses to Indiana, Arizona St, Oklahoma, and now Villanova. Their FG% is only 05.4 above ours (GU FG% 44.6 - Creighton FG% 50.0) so with that being said if we control the boards, which will reduce the fast break points, we will also control the possessions and the clock. We also need to maximize our possessions and reduce our TO's. This is how we win by 10-12 pts!!!!!!!!

I think those 2 statistical oddities are related. That 28 for 32 shooting performance on 2s was best D1 vs D1 percentage since 2007. Doesn't leave a lot of opportunities for offensive rebounds.

Continue to improve defense and rebounding. Pretty simple right now for the Hoyas. I think three-point defense on the secondary break and first pass has improved significantly. If they drive and kick and rotate the ball for an open three, that's fine. Make them expend energy on defense as well and wear them down. It's the one pass, wide open in rhythm three and the scramble off the offensive board that has killed the Hoyas.

But.getting back to my point, have we ever had a team that sent 4 players to the NBA on the first round?
