That's a headline that doesn't mean much to Hoya fans.
John Mason was the long-time Syracuse scorekeeper. One of the ironies of the great Georgetown-Syracuse rivalry was that both Mason, and Georgetown's scorekeeper, Jim Gilroy, hailed from the same small village (Greene, pop. 1,580) in upstate New York. John died suddenly at home last week. He was a good man. He will be missed.

John died suddenly at home last week. He was a good man. He will be missed. jg John E. Mason, 74, of Greene passed away on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at his home. He is survived by son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Carolyn Mason, Elkhart, Indiana; 2 granddaughters, Kayla and Heather Mason; 3 great-grandsons, Aiden, Braxton and Miguel. John was retired as a math teacher from Greene Central School District. He was the official score keeper for the Syracuse University mens basketball team and also officiated basketball games.
